2.4 Tdci PUMA, VCV, SYMPTOMS & FITTING
Dear All,
Thanks to this forum I correctly diagnosed U/S VCV but only after replacing throttle sensor (on advice from elsewhere!)

Mileage 103,000. Only other problems have been Clutch at 80K and starter at 103K

Initial symptoms were temporary loss of power like a limp mode.

Symptoms got worse. Power could be regained by pressing clutch down and idling for a few seconds or switching ignition off and on. Cleaning MAF and MAP made no difference. Chi chi chi was normal. Disconnecting clutch switch made no difference apart from revs not falling away when changing up (expected).

Part affected is "Valve - fuel Vapour" Landrover Pt No LR009837 ie VCV, costing £153 inc VAT. Comes C/W new O ring and gasket.

FITTING
Removed vacuum pipe by pushing ferrule back into brass fitting on exhauster pump.
Disconnected clip from thick harness by pulling it off EGR? pipe.
Sprayed off oil and dirt using "easy Start".
Used ball ended 5mm allen key to unscrew the two machine screws holding valve in place. (allen key will not work without ball end due to angle). Had to hook 8mm combo ring onto allen key to crack screws. They were easy to get out thereafter.
Valve pulled out with a little bit of effort.
I removed the electrical connector after getting valve out.
Cleaned available surfaces.
New O ring was not nice fit on valve body but I got it in OK.
I had bought a new Draper 1/4" socket set Pt No 16354 from Machinery Mart £18 inc VAT. I used the ratchet, adaptor and allen piece to tighten up screws. Importantly it fitted well around the valve for the inside screw. Ratchet may well have got screws undone instead of using allen key.

LEARN ISSUE
I did not do anything about LEARN.

TESTING
I just tried to start it, it hesitated for a moment and then ran normally. 13 mile test drive with no issues. Fingers crossed!

It should be fine after that, mine did the same when I replaced mine. Although I used one from PF Jones, cost £45 and came in a Genuine Nissan box but was the correct part and has worked really well.

No problems since and full performance is back. Thumbs Up $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R

I’m a bit concerned about the longevity of the Denso part. I put one in maybe 25,000 miles ago and it is already showing signs of failure again with a slightly uneven idle. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Premature failure of the VCV could well be caused by moisture or dirt in the fuel. If you ever suspect that you have excess moisture in the fuel, expect to have to change the VCV.

I changed mine today. There was absolutely no chance (for me) to remove the VCV without removing other parts. Engine was running unstable at low rpms when cold, but cured itself when warm. Everithing ok now...well let's hope it stays so.😉
