Did you make the payment on the UK website or was there an Irish version?
I've found plenty of clunky bits on their website, they could do with upping their game a bit. |

Ireland - hence it's also shown correctly in Euros
It also raises the question as to where EU orders might be distributed from - directly from the EU factory, or via the UK Hampshire HQ? This might particularly become an issue for the Irish market, as a UK export may incur additional import duty over a more direct EU -> EU state export, and this then has additional VRT and VAT rate implications. Would be good for Ineos to start bringing some more clarity with regards on the road pricing for each country it intends selling into. Click image to enlarge |

Seems strange to have VAT on it at all. It's just a deposit, you've not bought anything. I don't understand why they've not just issued a receipt for the amount received. As it's fully refundable if you change your mind, I don't think they can even book the sale as such.

As I understand it EU law states that VAT should not be charged on deposits, however we changed our laws in 2019 so that VAT must be charged. If the deposit is stated as fully refundable then I believe you will get the deposit + VAT back if you choose not to proceed. If it’s not classed as fully refundable then you will only get the deposit and lose the VAT payment. WARNING.

Since Brexit though they either charge zero vat, or charge the local VAT rate applicable to your (non-UK) based country rate.
Paddocks Spares for example have this well sorted and issue parts to the EU based on the local VAT rate applicable to your shipping location, many other smaller parts suppliers just charge them at a zero vat rate, and ship them, DHL then collect the local VAT due. As a business purchase, a 20% UK VAT invoice is as useful as an ashtray on a motorbike to me when I have to do my VAT returns. A lot of these will be bought as business utility machines, and they'll certainly have to get the VAT position sorted when they start looking for further firm non-refundable build slot deposits. |

That's not only EU laws. VAT = value added tax No value is added on prépaid cards or deposits because the output is missing. Just like you can't rise your bsiness' losses with a fictive VAT, too |

Thank you for your email enquiring about the VAT charge on your reservation invoice.
Your reservation fee of (amount) qualifies you for a priority position in the queue, allowing early access to place an order for your Grenadier in 2022. Whilst we provided customers the ability to pay in their local currency, your transaction is with INEOS Automotive Limited in the UK and not with a company based in your local jurisdiction. At this stage the reservation fee is for the provision of a service and not for a sale of goods (i.e. the vehicle). As such, tax is chargeable in the country where the business providing the service is established. In this instance, this means the UK and therefore UK VAT is payable on the service. Please be aware that the reservation fee will be fully refunded if you choose not to progress with the purchase of the vehicle. Alternatively, in event that you use your priority position to confirm an order for a Grenadier, we reconfirm that the full value of the reservation fee will be deducted from the vehicle purchase price. Finally, unlike the reservation fee, we confirm that the sale of the Grenadier vehicle will be treated as a supply of goods for VAT/GST purposes. We do hope this has clarified any concerns you had but do let us know if we can assist you further. Kind regards, Charles Alexander INEOS Grenadier Customer Service |
