2008 Defender 110 Puma 2.4 SVX Station Wagon Santorini Black
I have some MilZ product AG, from Switzerland - you may find them cheaper / better in the Alps or in European Snowy regions where they are more readily available - and get quality, no point having them if they break the first time you use them - (so avoid Aldi specials Rolling with laughter )

These were about £180 for a pair to fit standard 235's

as for the snow socks - you might as well put them on your feet and wear them, they don't last long Mr. Green

Somebody mentioned towing in the snow, sorry bad idea been there tryed that, over run brake trailers nightmare on hills and the main problem is them dragging you backwards and once your slipping its already gone wrong so hang on for the ride. If everything is under control you are not going fast enough.

I have a set of four chains, (one set goes on one tyre)
Last year I tried, just on the front, just on the back and on all 4.

The results were as follows:-

On the front = grip for drive OK, if heavy braking going down hill on a camber the back end would slide out a bit. Steering would wobble due to the fact that chains were on the tyres.

On the back = grip for drive OK, if heavy braking going down hill on a camber the front end would slide out a bit.

On front and back = Awesome.

Please note that I was driving at about 20mph on a quiet back lane and when safe to do so I slammed the brakes on to see what would happen. The vehicle used as a 130 without ABS. Under normal 'driving in snow' circumstances you would not slam the brake on. When braking genitally in the snow the vehicle stooped in a straight line.

If I only had 2 sets I think I would put them on the back, simply because the steering wheel would not wobble. 130's have feeling's as well you know Smile

fine on a fiesta to get you home, but not on a vehicle with any kind of torque or weight.


We use the socks on the fire engines at work - but then, they only weigh 13 tons, and probably don't have much torque either Wink

They actually work great, but have to be careful when the road clears, as mentioned above, holes start to appear. Mark
