1992 Defender 130 200 Tdi HCPU Chawton White

Knee brace for dogs

Hi all, my Springer Max has had knee issues most of his life, with a luxating patella and even though he's had several operations, we still have issues where the knee pops out

After recent vet consultations (she's known him since birth), we've both agreed that another operation is not the preferred way forward(he's also had cancer ops) so we are managing it with medication and strength work. He's not in pain or discomfort, but the knee keeps popping out on walks and he then starts limping.

Anyway, to cut to the question, at the moment we pop the knee back in four or five times a walk, but have been looking at dog knee supports,.

Has anybody had any experience of these and any suggestions for specific braces?

We'll as nobody replied, decided to take the plunge anyway.

Got this of Amazon:

It arrived yesterday, put on Max while in the house to get him used to it, didn't seem to trouble him.

This morning, just under a 2 hr walk and amazing results, not onece did his knee pop out, I usually have to pop it back in every 10 mins, but today his Knee stayed in place

The support is also supposed to help strengthen the muscles, so will see how that goes Iggy/Ieuan

Been about a month now and brace continues to work well, on average I have to pop the knee back in once or twice per walk, so a huge improvement

Aw poor thing, must be so distressing for him when his knee goes. Hope the support continues to work for him
