Sorry, must have missed your question. I've not had any experience myself of the above scope, but have had a play with a similar one in the form of the target model a year back or so. Optics are clear, but as usual, the original side wheel focus can be a bit awkward when new due to the wheel size/stiffness, but you could always fit an aftermarket wheel if it doesn't free up after a bit of use. As with most things, you get what you pay for, so it would depend on your budget, but also what shooting you want to use it for. If it's HFT and general us, then a £50 3-9 x 40AO by Niko Sterling will do the job excellently and that comes with mounts. If you want something for FT, well then it gets a little more technical. The favorite seems to be the Nikko Sterling 10-50 x 60. It has great optics and accurate focusing for around, when I last looked, in the region of £600, but that was a while back. Optical quality is fantastic if you want to spend a small fortune. Try Sworski, Zeiss or Leupold, but you'd have to be seriously serious to spend there sort of money. My personal favorite if I'm looking for a little more quality is the Bushnell Legend 5-15 x 40AO. An old scope nowadays, but just the job for around £200 now. That's what's on the EV2. If I find anything more detailed out about the Sidewinder I'll let you know. However, it should be well up to the job of hunting with an FAC air rifle with ease. My only thing I would think about would be the extra weight of a large (ish) scope when humping a rifle around in the field. Chris. Gave it some TLC and washed and polished it...
When I say polished it, I mean I was lazy and used some of this stuff. Still brings it up well though, nice smooth finish and no swirls. Just needs a proper polish to get rid of all the deeper scratches and a proper going over underneath with a pressure washer - Only been done twice this year - Ours is busted and can't exactly turn up to the pay-as-you-go one at the petrol station with ramps... |
