As long as there's no play in the bottom bushes I don't see why being able to rotate the shock body is a problem. Maybe he is suggesting it is getting loose in the bottom bushes and to think about changing them. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Yeah there is no play. Will see if he fails it for that. He is writing it up now.

Ok passed MOT but included an advisory that "bushes slightly worn but not resulting in excessive movement"
Going to change the bushes before they get worse |

What is better - poly bushes or rubber?
Any recommended manufacturer for poly? |

Do not over tighten the bottom pins/nuts. You will either get though bottom bushes, or snap off the pin when using the articulation.

Thanks for the tip LandayAndy - was just going to replace with rubber bushes and tighten to torque in Service Manual
Dinnu - what do you mean by tightened against a step? |

Hi,
The pins on a shock are 2 different diameters, a plain part and a slightly smaller threaded part. The inner washer, bushes and centre washers slide over the plain part, and the outer washer and nut tighten up against the step and stop the bushes from being over compressed. As per the image below. I personally disagree with the above comment and would say the threaded part allows adjustment depending on what you are fitting it too. Even in defenders they have different setups with some axles having bush retaining cups on and some not. You want just enough pressure on the bushes that there is no slack/play. Gwyn Lewis (suspension guru) talked me through this.
But I’m sure we all have different methods. |
