Tyre sizes that don’t rub on ET0 rims?
Hi everyone.

I’ve been looking at some ET0 rims (torn between ANR classic and ET0 Wolf copies). Really like the stance with them and the improvement to turning circle would be nice too. I’ve already bought a set of genuine Wolf rims to replace my boosts, but planning to sell them to buy some ET0s.

But I’ve read on here that on factory suspension, at full articulation some tyres can rub on the arches when fitted with ET0 rims.

I much prefer the ANR classic rim, but being so wide - the tyre choice for me would be either 255/85/R16 (which do rub according to this thread: https://www.defender2.net/forum/post910500.html#910500) or 265/75R16s (standard NAS 90 fitment) which, although being 10mm wider than the 255/85/R16s are less tall at 803mm vs 841mm for the 255s.

…or ET0 Wolf copies, which would be my second choice - but, being narrower, would let me fit standard 235/85R16s.

Does anyone know if any of the above options would let me get away with my standard (just fitted, brand new genuine parts) suspension on my 2010 90SW and still avoid any contact with the wheel arch at full articulation/full load?

This might not be much help, but I’ve got ET0 rims with 235/85/16 tyres and get no rubbing. So that would work.

285 75 16 did not rub when I had et0 Mach 5’s.

There are steering limit screws you can adjust to control rubbing > 110 XS Double Cab

I’ve had 265 75 16 on wolf copies with no rubbing and 235 85 16 on et0 modulars with no issues.

Sounds very promising! The rubbing I’m meaning is the rear arch under full articulation (rather than the front, which could be controlled by altering the lock stops).

If I can get away with 265/75s on ET0 ANR classic rims without similar interference with the rear arch spat then I’ll definitely order a set. It’s quite a lot of money to save-up to buy the rims and tyres so it’d be heartbreaking if I found they caused a rubbing issue.

My brain is struggling to decide if, for a given tyre width/diameter, whether a reduced offset (so tyres sticking out more) would reduce or increase the risk of the treads catching on the rear arch spat.

I’m starting to think that it’s actually the extra diameter of the 255/85 tyres that causes the issue, rather than tyre width or wheel offset.

That does help co1 - thank you. At least my backup plan of ET0 wolf copies and standard tyres will work.

Just hoping that 265/75/16s on ANR classics will work too as they are a particularly lovely looking rim.

I run 235x85r16 on et0 Wolfs and 255x85R16 on et0 ANR'S. I don't do serious off-roading but had no issues with either.

The only minor rubbing I've had is on the ANR'S when heavily loaded around corners, but think that's more to do with a saggy old suspension.

I have the wolf copies with 265 / 75’s and am more than happy with them but again I don’t do mental off-roading so couldn’t really comment on that.

ANR Classics with 265×75×16 KO2s on Standard Defender 90 loaded with a 300kg concrete block. No rubbing but don't do offroading. Not permitted in my country. Confused

Wow - you have both the options I'm looking at. must be a nice garage!

It's just dawned on me that the 265/75s on ET0 would likely be too wide and would protrude out from the wheelarch.

So 255/85/r16 on ANR classics would look absolutely sublime with a pleasant increase in height without affecting driveline angle - but may catch the rear arch (though, thinking about it, I do have disco isolators on the back springs now gaining a few mm) though wouldn't be an issue in all situations except for twisty axles...
Or 235/85/R16s on ET0 wolfs which will definitely fit but not quite as classic looking.

Some thinking time is needed I feel - damn these LR compromises, if only Nak had offered the ANR classics in a 7"j Laughing

Chek - wow: they look fantastic!

Do the tyres protrude past the arches? (I mean do the plastic wheel arch eyebrows cover the width of the tyre?)

I think you'll be fine with 265/75r16 on ET0. Personally, think 255 is a great size, but limited tyre choice.
