Air in fuel at a quarter of a tank… fine otherwise!
Hi,

I wondered if anyone has had the same problem with their defender puma (mines an 11plate).
It runs fine all the time… well fine for a defender! But when it gets to a quarter of a tank it starts sucking up air into the fuel lines from somewhere and dies! Now my obvious conclusion was a split in the fuel sender pipe in the tank about a quarter of the way up… but I’ve replaced this and couldn’t find anything wrong with the old one! It’s just strange that it doesn’t have a problem until a quarter of a tank? Any help would be really appreciated.

Thanks

The fuel tank breather pipe that runs back up to the “fill up” pipe? Replaced it when I dropped the tank because it had completely perished… still having the problem though, and would that cause air in the fuel line?

It took me weeks to find the culprit of air being introduced to the fuel, turned out to be a split filter housing.

When hotter fuel is returned to the filter housing it causes the split to open, allowing air in.

Unrelated to how much fuel is in the tank, but worth noting Wink
