SP4x4 previously offered both skin options, but presumably the aluminium skins were less popular so have been dropped. I got the zintec version a few years ago and remain very happy with them. How much weight are you expecting to save by not having the zintec skins? I'd be surprised if it's more than a few lbs. Click image to enlarge |

Yes, Duralac is a for keeping corrosion out of joints. Used it on all sub and main assemblies back in the day, regardless of whether they were similar or dissimilar metals. Still use it now too. On a historical note Series One doors from the 54 model year to the end of production in 1958 had the Birmabright skin on a galvanised steel door frame with no sealant between the Birmabright skin and the frame. You never see any corrosion of the Birmabright on these doors.

I restore Series land rovers and try to preserve original paint where I can.
To this end, I've previously bought bare steel door top frames from SP4x4, galvanised them myself and fitted the original skins back on. |

Birmabright is a lot more resilient than the regular aluminium used on later models and doesn't corrode in the same way. ^^^ Didn’t Series 2 from 1958 and later 2A have Birmabright door skins? I had a Series 2 many years ago where the door skins had corroded at the bottom.

Birmabright was used up to the early eighties when the company went out of business. It wasn't corrosion proof but was much better than what came later. Darren
