2004 Defender 90 Td5 CSW Santorini Black

Took the 80” out for its first trip to the pub. Had to take it into the fields beforehand though

Annoyingly, since draining the tank, it’s been having a fuelling issue. To be investigated next weekend . . .

Up and running again

New pump, plugs, float, and needle valve seem to have sorted the fuelling issues.

Next big job will be to paint and fit the correct wings I picked up on Thursday.

Would have been rude not to take a photo when enjoying an early evening 3.8 Pils on Friday!

Went for a quick run in the 80” last weekend. When warm, the idle seems just a little high. There’s a slight crunch getting it into 1st. Something to investigate and sort in the coming weeks. Charlie

Assuming you means when stationary, try putting it in third or fourth before engaging first when stationary, the synchro will stop the gearbox shafts from spinning before you engage the (non-synchro) first or second.

If you mean when moving, then practice double-declutching!

Yes whilst stationary. My double de-clutching has been mastered through the Series 2

Quick drive around the local valleys. Running nicely after fitting electronic ignition.

A few quirks with the gearbox that could be down to wear. Can I be bothered rebuilding it? No.

Reconditioned radiator is on the way. I’ve placed an order with UnderCover Covers for a bootlace hood and some seats.

It’s off to South West Rust Proofing in 4/5 weeks for a full treatment.
