Viscous fan tips
Hello All,

Any tips on how to remove seized viscous fan. I have got a 36mm spanner and made a tool for the pulley. But it doesn’t move a bit. I’ve soaked nut in 3 in one but still no joy.

TIA,

Usually a good whack with a lump hammer works for me, you are aware that its a left hand thread?.

I have tried every method under the sun.

I’ve even given it a go with the hammer drill on chisel Function on the edge of the nut as I’ve seen in another thread.

Have just made a long bar to put on back of the pulley tool and it’s now just ripping the spanner off the viscous nut. it is seized solid.

I am turning it anti clockwise is this correct? 2008 Puma tdci

Have you tried going clockwise? try tapping a flat bar on the flats of the nut to try and shock it.

Viscous fans are always undone in the same direction the fan rotates when the engine is running.

Here’s a tip, wrap your knuckles is a towel before starting, you will take the skin off them when it goes. Ask me how I know. Twice!
