Chassis swap firm N. West? (for pedantic customer)
Hi - does anyone have any experience of companies offering chassis swaps in the N.West England (or a bit further away)?

There are loads of companies that offer this at very low prices but I'm looking for someone who can be trusted get the small details right (pipe clips, factory bent brake lines, correct fasteners and fixings, etc), who is experienced in working on 'modern' Defenders and who can handle the prep and finishing of the underbody components (blasting, sending parts out to be galvanised followed by correct paint processes, etc.).

I'd want to provide the garage with a detailed request list - I'd be willing to help them with unusual requests (eg: hot zinc spraying of components unsuitable for dip galv and acid dipping of box section parts - I would collect parts in the van and deliver back to them quickly as I have things like this done quite regularly)

Up until now, the only company I'd trust is Foleys - but their standard chassis change price is disproportionately high: I'd happy to pay a firm extra for the pain of their dealing with a pedantic customer and extra labour, but there must be a happy medium between the quick'n'dirty firms and Foleys.

Does anyone have any recommendations? There's a few garages I'd trust to do part of the work, but not all of it.

I do have a restoration specialist I;'ve used before who are comfortable galvanising my existing chassis (currently plan A) and undertaking all the requested works at an OK price, but their labout price is sufficient that the economics are close between preserving the original and simply buying new and having it fitted elsewhere (and reselling the factory chassis to recoup some costs).

Unfortunately, having had lots of Land Rovers in the past, I just never enjoy the car unless I know the underside is fully galvanised and protected.

There's Jake Wrights, who I'll call tomorrow but any other suggestions would be most welcome.

…and obviously, I’d love to do this myself. I’ve done quite a few new-chassis up rebuilds already but with two SIIA projects on the go, I just don’t have the space (or the energy!)

There is Carriages Auto Services in Manchester. Never used them but have seen some good comments over the years. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Try LSL 4x4 on the Fylde Coast between Preston and Blackpool. They have done numerous chassis swaps. They are excellent at fabrication and welding if you need it. I’m a very satisfied customer.

+1 for Carriages Auto Services. Got my 110 from them, very accommodating and didn't seem put out by anything I requested. Always lots of vehicles in whenever I've gone over there which is a good sign and I enjoy having a mooch about to see what they're building. They sent pictures during the build process to keep me updated and it was never an issue if I wanted to drop in.

Thanks guys. I didn’t know carriages existed until I saw your messages. I went over this afternoon and was very impressed. They’re working up a quote for me now.

No idea of what sort of price to expect. Any hints via PM would be very welcome.

I think it is probably that time for my Landy too. I've just started talking to Taylors 4x4 in Tattenhall Chester. They have done engine work for me in the past. Anyone had experience of their restoration or chassis work?
