2011 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 PU Santorini Black

Cleaning Recommendations Please

Can anyone recommend a cleaning approach to removing the film that's built up on my black Defender? It has a galvanised hardtop which has "leeched" onto the paintwork shown in the photos

Thanks in advance for any help or pointers

a good detailer would take a lot of that out but its well engrained into the paint

would be good to machine polish the car and throw some proper wax on top.

Do a smal test area first, but my recommendation would be :-

Try bilt hamber korrosol https://bilthamber.com/product/korrosol/

Give it a wash and dry , Followed by a clay bar

Then use farecla G3 regular grade paste compound. https://www.farecla.com/products/g3-regula...pound/%5B/

Use a slightly damp microfibre cloth to apply in small areas at a time and add a little spray of water as the paste drys to keep the paste working. Moving the cloth up and down and side to side then in a random circular motion to finish. Then use a standard polish over the top in the same way, then buff with a different microfibre cloth.

Do test areas to see how well it performs, it should take most marks out but deeper scratches in the clear coat will need a da polisher with the right combination of pads and varying abrasive level compounds.

2008 Defender 90 Puma 2.4 XS CSW Fuji White

+1 on the clay bar just as mentioned a good wash first, they are very gentle on the paintwork but should be used with a purpose made lubricant usually bought with the bar.

After a good quality wax should make it easier to wash off as clearly it will happen again.

if the bar doesn't work, then a buff with a good compound around 3000 grit should work, im sure the detailers will add some science!

I had a similar issue with the back of my Defender when I got it. I washed it thoroughly, used a clay bar, then used Meguiars Ultimate Compound. That removed the deposits and the scratches. I then used a fine polish to make it even shinier. It takes some elbow grease but it's easier if you have a DA polisher you can borrow.
