I don't know, is it? Given the (almost laughable) lengths that most manufacturers seem to go to to disguise prototypes, this seems to make a refreshing change. Darren

Of course, but is there any reason why established manufacturers couldn't adopt the same approach? Is there something inherent in being a start-up that permits it or is it just they they're new and don't feel constrained by the way things have always been done in the past? They're all pretty rhetorical questions, to be honest. I just thought the difference in approach was interesting. Darren

New manufacturer, new product, no existing customers - makes sense getting people onboard as soon as you can, I suppose (especially if they think they’re getting some kind of special access).

The reason is, that sales of the old models plummet from the moment of the reveal of a new model. It happened to Mercedes when pictures of the new E Class where published from the set of the movie Men In Black in 2001 prematurely. Cost them millions. |

I like it, but to me the exterior is much too cluttered (look at the side shot).
Couldn't all those fixings etc be optional extras for those who need them? |

How would you feel if you they were standard fit, but as an option you could delete them? Several (I'm thinking sports car manufacturers) use this approach albeit for different purposes.
I actually think they may be optional. The tracking in the boot was described as optional with just the tie down rings being standard. |

Poverty spec. plays three pre-recorded messages sequentially, in a choice of 16 different languages : "Pedal your f*****g push irons in a single line on these narrow roads" "Stop holding up all the rest of us who are paying tax and insurance to use these roads" "What's with the lycra fetish? Put some proper clothes on" I believe the XS model will have a custom recording facility for the toot button and a post-pass smog generator that will overfuel the engine to kick out a load of black smoke when passing the would be Wiggins'. |

Couple of interesting videos with more details.
I like the idea of a 'virtual' dealer network with whomever taking part. Would be great to get all of independent BMW and LR garages getting involved. Lower running costs and personal service. Other tidbit is the warranty being honored if you service at home etc. Not sure I would at least not whilst its 'new' but its refreshing to hear the approach. Im sure the naysayers (philip  ) will say its just an outcome of their lack of dealer network but all the same its a refreshing perspective. Can see this being a long term ownership proposition. For me, a 'new' disco 4 family/touring wagon is exactly what id like. If the road manners is OK I could be conviced.

You and I don't pay tax to use the roads, Road Tax was abolished in the 1930's Your paying VED based on emissions. And let face it, i cant drive and ride my bike at the same time.....should i be entitled to a refund...that would be nice  |

Does that rear storage come with a special wheel cover with a hole to allow access to the storage while still being able to protect the spare tyre from UV?
Would be nice to have on a Defender too. |
