Thanks for collating the dimensions. Thumbs Up

Seems width is the main surprise. I'm almost certain early articles had it at a much slimmer vehicle but with such wide armrests built into the doors, maybe it shouldn't be that much of a surprise (they almost look pre-configured for armoured glass):

Going to have to do some measuring up around the place and see where it does and doesn't fit.

Saw it in the flesh at goodwood on Friday and had a good poke around. If they attain the 45k entry point it will do well I suspect. Kind of reminds me of a disco3/4 tbh and that’s no bad thing. Would make a good family wagon especially with 7 seats. The exterior is chock full of mounting points which I’m not bothered about, but do like the interior functionality and rear load area. The bmw engines and zf boxes should be good for up to 300bhp and it will be interesting to see how bad the mpg is given the aero. The front bumper is a bit big but I guess that’s regs.

The overall build quality looks great and I hope they manage to retain it. The initial prototypes are built by manga steyr with production going to the new french factory. Be interested in what warranty and dealer network/support they put in place. Make or break on this for most I’d think.

I’d certainly be interested at 45k for a long term family wagon/touring truck.

Early Reservations
Did anyone just get the email offering the chance for those who expressed early interest to place a refundable two week deposit before the general public?

Feeling pretty special:)

I asked the chap at goodwood and he would only say pricing, options, warranty, dealers, service etc would be communicated in october of this year. id suspect it will be a few grand.

It just stated: “you can pay your small, fully refundable reservation fee 2 weeks earlier, ensuring you'll be top of the list for when we start taking orders. Note, reservations can only be made online, via our website. We’ll be in touch closer to the date.” 1955 Series 1 107" Pick up.

Yes, width is my only disappointment. I would have preferred it to be about 150mm narrower; ie, just a bit wider than old Defender.

Just been off road in one it means you don't bang your head on the window when it gets rough.

I see Lotus want £2,000 for their £60k Emira; although they are not calling it a deposit but a "Priority Ordering Fee" (a recent trade article I read was explaining that a deposit gave the customer more consumer rights and so a fee of this type was better for the manufacturer/trader Rolling Eyes )

Well we had our 'ride along' on Saturday, which was a great event. Lovely location in Wales, stunning scenery. The set up was very relaxed, there was a pop-up style arrangement with some merchandise, the static silver interior car and a functional blue car doing the test drives / ride along. The ride along was 20 mins or so, across some fairly tame off-road - along fairly established tracks and fields - but the ride was extremely impressive, and the powertrain equally so. Ride was remarkably more composed than 'classic' defender, and whilst evident that you're on live axles, it was able to hustle across lumps and bumps very comfortably.
Powertrain was very impressive too, the car we were in had the 3.0l BMW diesel, with the ZF 8speed. The 'instructor' we had was very elated with the car, having experience for 20yrs teaching both civilians and military, having experience with most of the usual 4x4's - and was vocal about being confident that the Grenadier would be more competent and capable than any others - given the diff locks, powertrain and suspension design.

Interior in the 'prototype' was incomplete, but the Recaro seats were very comfy and supportive, and our personal highlight was the 3" wide door tops, which are a perfect armrest. All in, it feels very defender like, but with added width, although in the flesh, it is it's own beast.

Overall very impressed, the team were knowledgable and helpful, albeit hesitant to pass on any more information than already released!

If anyone's got any specific questions let me know and I'll try to answer Thumbs Up

I can't think of any other manufacturer that would allow members of the public to experience their half finished prototypes in this way. I think it shows the level of confidence in their product. Darren

Isn't it just a function of being a new startup? There's no existing product can can have sales damaged by showing the "next" thing.

The approach is similar to public viewings for Rivian, Bollinger, et al.

I think this is more about maintaining a level of interest in potential markets; as I'm not sure what having a look at an early prototype tells you when there's already a further developed one, and in any event neither of them may be close to the finished product.

I'm not knocking it, the former reason is justification for going ahead with it and as they say "sharing the journey".
