What’s an acceptable test drive
How many miles are acceptable when you take your car in as a test drive

I had a new remote module fitted recently and just uploading my photos I’ve noticed it’s did 30 miles, which seems excessive. I can’t see it doing anything more than a test drive to sit at least 1 location, but I’ve not watched the footage if I still have it, I’ll need to download the camera footage and watch, which seems a bit boring Mike

Rather than watching the video you can see where it was taken on the app trip records or by logging into your incontrol account on line. Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Another way of looking at it would be if they only did 3 miles on a test drive then would they have had the opportunity to ensure that everything was working correctly?

I understand where you are coming from but maybe they were just being thorough.

I'm guessing you discounted having a word with yourself along the lines of this?

Sorry what’s the point your making here? Rolling Eyes Although I did forget your a member of the JLR board so maybe there’s something else to protect on behalf of corporate Rolling with laughter

I have no problem with a faulty part, or warranty work, even leaving it with them and a test drive…they even had it for 2 days, I didn’t care…but 33 miles to test a connectivity module…is it reasonable, I think not, nothing to do with the mileage I’ve done on the car either although they did more miles in it on one day than I did in the last month

Before I complain it’s useful to see what’s seen as reasonable.

I’ve checked the apps route, ironically it tracking was not working due to the module. It’s one trip that’s bothering more than one. Mike

So the story is JLR literally go the extra mile... and man complains. Surprised

As a goodwill gesture, at the next board meeting I'll have a word with Gerry and see if he'll sign one of his old cravats and post it off to you.

As many miles as necessary to to validate whatever the test drive is done for.
So 1 mile is as right as 30 miles.

Why complaining?
What happened to good old chatting?

Nobody in the forum will be able to answer your question. So why not asking your dealer. (Asking not complaining.)
"Hey Jim, I've seen on remote app you have been doing half an hour test drive. Any trouble in fixing the problem?"
As easy as this.
By the reaction of 'Jim' you will have your answer, either in words or in his face.

No offense, just my opinion.

P.S. Gerry is not wearing cravats. But Nigel does. And he is in charge of Customer Satisfaction.

Check the app, my guess is they used your vehicle to transport a driver for either a collection or returning another customer's vehicle. 15 miles there and 15 back. There is no need ever for a 30 mile test drive.

Thats what im starting to think - as it went to 2 different housing areas

Why does it matter...well i suppose it doesnt, except they have put more miles on it than i have (and its not done near 1000 yet). it had 0 stone chips when it went in and now has 3, used my fuel had people in it to contaminate etc. It only went in for a connectivity module, a 10 mile round trip, twice, would still be less but why test drive a system thats job is to give you spotify

I think ill go and download all the footage Mike

Disagree wholeheartedly. (My dad has worked in the trade all his life for reference). These are all real examples:

Oil consumption problem reported - 100 mile test drive required as per manufacturer diagnosis
Intermittent noise that was reported as only ever occuring first thing in the morning - Car taken home for 3 nights until the noise reoccured
Limp mode happening under odd combination of driving scenarios - car test driven until the fault could be replicated.

To flip the scenario on it's head. Customers don't take it well if a car is handed back with "No Fault Found" only for it to re-occur a few days later, as the test drive was only round the block.
