Worth giving Motor and Diesel Engineering a call https://www.mdengineering.co.uk/2-4-2-2-tdci-engines/ , they have new defender spec 2.4 engines for sale. £3k plus vat. You can go for complete versions or more stripped down versions, all depends on the condition of your existing ancillaries.
I expect others will suggest going for an engine conversion , ie a bmw diesel or v8 petrol but that can be more pricey. Other sources may be the companies that undertake these conversions as they may have take out 2.4 defender spec engines in stock. I.e D T Engines or 4x4 Fabrications . https://dtenginesolutions.co.uk/conversions https://www.4x4fabrication.co.uk/ |

The remap etc should all be fine if you're reusing the ECU and other ancillaries and only swapping out the engine unit itself.
AS above, I'd be looking at the places that do engine conversions. I'd include Nene overland in the above list. LRsurplus (which I think are twisted's sister company) regularly have complete engines for sale on their Facebook site. They may well be 2.2s though but probably worth giving them a call. |

You could give Cam-Tech-Craig a shout over on the Full Fat forum. He has a garage in Gloucestershire.

There was one for sale in this forum not so long ago if that can help you weigh the options on costs.

I suspect the ECU will also need to be reprogrammed to the new injector codes.

Still is for sale. Be amazed at the places I've been asked to ship it. Vanuatu, Australia and now Ecuador. There seems to be more demand abroad for these second hand than in Europe. I had to replace my 2.4tdci engine a few years ago.
Looking at the secondhand engines available then it seemed strange that the majority had come from low mileage vehicles but the mileage could never be guaranteed Further research convinced me that the engine was not made to be reconditioned and that most "reconditioned" engines had simply had a broken bit replaced and were cleaned up to look good. Got a new unit from M&D engineering (suggested above) who offered very competitive pricing for the engine, starter, turbo etc. They were also very helpful and easy to deal with. The BAS tune, that was used with the original engine, enabled a couple of learning procedures to be done using the smartphone app. Pete Bell was, as usual, incredibly helpful. Finally I was able to find a precise and thorough mechanic to carefully fit the engine. Good luck Just because you're offended doesn't mean you're right. |

Id you're going for like for like the buy Smyles's engine as it's from a forum member and therefore not liable to mess you about.
Worth investigating if the garage that is doing his build may be able to do the swap for you. |

I have seen this on ebay, I've never used them but the price looks reasonable to me... £2k fitted, it says they are ford engine specialists so I'm sure they could help with 2.4 version

Not sure. If nothing else the picture is a 2.4, not a 2.2 as advertised. Definitely worth giving them a call and talking it through, or if they are local go and visit.
