My understanding was they were clearly saying it wasn't going to happen. As usual the left hand doesn't know what the right is doing. Tbh considering the structure of the vehicle I think it's highly unlikely. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

I have to say that looks so right.
"Jaguar Land Rover’s executive director of vehicle programmes, Nick Collins, has told Car of the Year that not only is a Defender pick-up feasible but that “there is customer demand” enough to justify one. Collins confirmed that “there were no structural limitations” to a Defender pick-up and that “you can make a pick-up from a monocoque” – although nearly all mainstream pick-ups are based on vehicles with a separate chassis and body. “We always said the Defender would be a family,” Collins said, and that while talking about future plans should be “saved for another day”, we should “watch this space” with regards to a pick-up. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69294...p;start=45 |

Interesting article. Seems to suggest that this is a different wheelbase than 110 and that the pickup version will be based on this wheelbase. Click image to enlarge "Clearly featuring a stretched wheelbase and longer rear doors, the new Defender 130 also gets a considerably bigger rear overhang, compared to the 110. Both features liberate more space within the cabin and allow the 130 to offer seating for up to eight – one more than a Defender 110 with the optional third row." And for those wanting a utility version of this: "When it arrives, it's rumoured that the Defender 130 will be positioned as the most luxurious version of the Defender, with the flagship Land Rover off-roader set to be offered in top-end trims only." And pickup news: "Following on from the longer Defender 130, Land Rover is also rumoured to be secretly developing a pick-up version of the Defender that is expected to sit on the same extra-long platform. When it arrives, the dual-cab pick-up will rival both the Ford Ranger and Mitsubishi's L200." https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/land-rover/d...otted-test |

I'm not sure that it is clear that it features a stretched wheelbase and longer doors, to be honest? The doors looks the same to me.

Nothing stretched on the 130 over the 110, it’s all being added to the rear. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

I can’t see there ever being a pick-up. That spot’s been stolen by the Grenadier. And why would LR bother? The new Defender is clearly aimed at the family/lifestyle SUV market, not the workhorse or pick up market, which the old 130 was, and many of the 110 DCPUs were (until Spectre reared it’s ugly head). So they will never create anything that will conflict with its image as a luxury/premium SUV brand. The ship that is the idea of a rugged, do anything, go anywhere, etc off roader, has long sailed….. Monsieur Le Grenadier I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list..... 2011 Puma 110DC - Corris Grey |
