So the old 130 was a good looking beast that fitted in parking bays was it? Don’t think so! It also had its spare on the back door.

I know a lot of new Defender owners have come from Discovery, but we have to stop comparing the new Defender with it. It’s aimed at people who want a big load area, and there is plenty of them if you read the internet. The old 130 was aimed at the commercial market, I think this might be also. 2021 Defender 110 X-Dynamic HSE D300 MHEV

Think will be more for the US where they want three rows and space for all their food too. It’s still only twin-cab length.

The length causing parking problem is a non-issue……… instead of taking up two spaces side by side (Aja Range Rover parking) you take up two end for end……… or you come to my local town to park in the park and ride where there are especially long slots for motorhomes, coaches and cars with caravans in most of the open air car parks

Not in standard form, it didn't. Only if an aftermarket carrier had been fitted.

The old 130 never left the factory with the spare on the back door and was never sold as a 'car'.

The reason people are comparing new Defender to the Discovery is because LR have pitched it that way, which is why many new owners have come straight from a Discovery. This new 130 is no different. LR's own marketing material makes much of the full seven seats, which is not the sign of a commercial in the way that the old 130 was. Darren

^^^ correct - there is no pickup version of any size out there yet - this is simply a 110 with a longer overhang! Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

That's the same vehicle I saw a few weeks ago. Personally I think it looks better proportioned than the 110 as it should have had a longer rear overhang. Still not a fan of the overall aesthetics though, and certainly no obvious connection with the 130 I used to drive for work.

The fact it was in camo is what made it stand out, as the old mules have long since disappeared off the roads. 2011 110 USW

That is frigging horrible. Have LR and GMcG not learnt from the D5 how unpopular weird overhangs are? If that’s anything like the real thing when launched, it is simply a bolt-on-bum. No effort to make it look right. Mind you it’s probably targeted at the American market to compete against the Escalade etc, which are equally disproportionate and revolting.

Overhangs were never an issue with the D5, it was the offset number plate and lack of a proper split tailgate.

Though I do agree the 130 doesn’t look pretty. Maybe a pickup version would look better? 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

Don’t think the camo is doing it any favours the rear side window is hopefully one piece to make it look better proportioned.

Rear sliding window for 3rd row passengers and dogs would be cool. 110 MY23.5 X Dynamic HSE
