I think that the UK has just got itself into a PCP finance trap.
You want to buy a £30k car, get it on PCP, pay 50% then give it back before the warrantee runs out and not having to take out a further loan, with interest paying for a fast depreciating asset that’s worth less than the loan. But then if you were going to spend £30k on a car but only paying for half then why not get a £60k car and only pay the £30 you originally budgeted for. I know that this is a simplistic view but I think manufacturers have jumped on this and continued to move prices upwards. In the US the majority buy the car from the dealer using specialist loans, not dealer finance so the car is theirs. US dealers also have a habit of pushing prices up over the ticket price if they can get away with it. I be only had four Land Rover’s since 1994, I prefer to go second hand, pay out right and keep them as long as I can or wish to. I have no wish to fall into the loan trap and have a vehicle I can’t use as I wish or modify to my requirements. |

I think US prices are generally quoted pre-tax, so that will push it up a bit.
This is based on the Bronco Sport, a car I thought would do very well in Europe as a sort of spiritual successor to the Freelander 2, but alas neither will be coming here. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS |

The US market tend to protect domestic manufacturers too, as many markets do to some extent. No import/export tariffs mean it's not really a level playing field.

VAT & Import tax is what will greatly increase pricing. As does the fact that their market is LHD.
That being said, LHD to RHD and vice versa is often built into specs for easy cheaper production. $W33T $0U7H3RN $UG4R 🇬🇧🏴🏴🏴🇮🇪🇺🇸⛽️🛢️⚙️🧰💪 |

I like that, especially in that duck egg blue. A shame it’s not coming here.
EDIT - Just had a look on Fords website, the colour is called Area 51 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Aren’t most modern Fords now all the same as part of their “one Ford” strategy 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

This Maverick (and the Bronco Sport sold in the US) share the same platform etc. as the Ford Kuga you can buy here. The Kuga is bland and uninteresting, the Bronco Sport and Maverick stand out as interesting fun products. I’m sure Ford have a reason for sticking with the Kuga in Europe instead of offering those, but it escapes me. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

What a complete load of b******* - the US market pioneered car finance and leasing. |

It would tempt me away from LR if it were to be offered. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |

Yes, the Bronco Sport is a perfect replacement for a Freelander2, and the Maverick looks fun and practical.
I'd buy ether one, but certainly not a boring Kuga. Wake up Ford, you're missing out on sales! ...I've given up hope of JLR making something I want, ever again. |

Seems Ford are happy:
Jim Farley (@jimfarley98) Tweeted: With Maverick, we reimagined what a truck could be. We wanted a small, capable truck people could adapt on their own. After 1st full month of sales, we're seeing lots of younger & first-time buyers w/ +25% btwn 18-35 & majority of trade-ins switching from sedans & small SUVs. https://t.co/2eqPVXeyYD https://twitter.com/jimfarley98/status/1455889911391813637?s=20 Click image to enlarge |

I do like that, in that colour too.
LR are missing a trick. Something like that based around the Disco Sport platform would sell. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue |
