Carpeting a double cab
Hi all,

Does anybody know roughly how many square meters of carpet is required to carpet a double cab defender?

Thanks,
Pardeep

I know it won't help, but my hint would be: None. I never saw a Double Cab not taking water from somewhere and everybody I knew who did carpets had to pull them after a while, because they always get wet and stinky. Never forget: cars have owner, Landrover have field service personnel.

My 110 DC was horrible for leaking, particularly when I didn't have my canopy on - water would dribble through the tub/cab bulkhead every time I didn't park pointing uphill... Stuart

Have you got any sound proofing / anything under the 2nd row seat or back wall ?
While I’m here, how bad is your rear window rattle
Thanks

I had the factory carpeting which didn't go all the way to the bulkhead - it just went an inch or two beyond the the top lip of the rear seat box if that makes sense.

And yes, rear window rattle is very common. I just stuffed some thin bits of cardboard from a tissue box in the runners. I was student, so buying new felt was not an option!! Alcohol comes 1st Laughing Stuart

It’s taken me a few months but I’ve done most of major leaks in the double cab, a lot of silkaflex marine sealant and captain tolleys creeping crack cure. The worst bit was the tiny joint before the front gutter and the roof.

It’s still not dry, it’s a Defender... there’s no chance I’d ever put fixed carpet in it.

For those ‘in the know’ why is the DC particularly bad? I’ve definitely got water ingress, but it’s the passenger footwell, which is common across all models. Beyond that, nothing. Or it’s hiding, very, very well. But nothing from the tub etc and we do get a fair amount of rain here. Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

Front of my DC is always dry.

The rear floor is sodden all the time.

So added carpet to the rear seatbox, then rubber floor matt. Looks good, not wet. Instagram @defender_ventures

I used to get a bit of water in the drivers footwell. Used some sikaflex on the window hinge and front of the gutter and it has been completely dry - front and rear - for the last 8 years or so. I still have the original carpets (with rubber mats) and all are fine. I lifted all the carpets a couple of years ago to fit sound proofing and there was no sign of water.
