Uff
Several possibilities.

Appart from the Defender, in my case astronomy, carpentry (can be veeery expensive hobby), photography and drones.
Better have several hobbies to not get boring with one.

Cheers! Eduardo

Do something different….take a diving course, the underwater world is so peaceful and there is so much to explore, even in uk waters. This was actually just snorkelling

It used to be windsurfing sails and new boards every couple of years for me, carbon fibre masts and booms, Kevlar sails , carbon fins and only the most expensive de-tuned race boards with wood decks......... once I passed 60 the water in Loch Lomond suddenly seemed to get much colder so I gave away 19 sails, 5 hi tech boards, 5 carbon mast and booms to the windsurfing school out on Tiree because their kit was so old and worn out it was unusable. They were made up to get some hi tech gear. Still have my £3000 mountain bike somewhere at the back of my garage where is a lovely home for lots of spiders.
The only remnants of my windsurfing days are a Stand Up Paddle board just in case I fancy using it on a day when the water feels less cold and my windsurfer trailer that is filling my garage in case I want to go to the tip......... it also makes a good place to store the 15 or so wheels and tyres for various Land Rover models so I can get a lawn mower in! Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

The Defender, wife and daughter seem to manage to swallow all my spare cash. But if you want to take up a new Defender related hobby, what about a TRX-4, great fun and what some people do with them is incredible!!

Barbecues.

I favour the Big Green Egg for my barbecue of choice. I have a large and Minimax which I use all the year round.

You can only burn good quality charcoal on them and this is expensive compared with garage briquettes.

There are loads of accessories to add to the barbecue and then there’s the meat. I usually cook large pieces (as they cook better) and always have loads left over for other meals as it’s only me and the wife. Would never go back to a ‘garden centre’ barbecue.

I believe Webber’s can get expensive too although I have never owned one.

The other waste of money item I have is a Roland digital drum set which I am trying to learn to play. Always wanted to play the drums but in their acoustic form they are a very antisocial instrument. These you can plug a set of earphones in and it’s just a tepid thud from the mesh heads rather than noise abatement problems! Using an online course called Drumeo which is Canadian. Great value for money and really informative and excellent tuition which you can progress through at your own speed. They have some very talented drummers giving tuition. Also loads of people from the UK on there as well.

The drumming community is very much friendly and helpful - a lot like the Land Rover community Thumbs Up

I spend enough keeping the Defender and a Foers ibex on the road, more wouldn't be enjoyable.
Would love a sports car but one of the above would have to go first. Sad

Was into hifi in my teens and twenties, loved it, but will need a detached house before I get into that again. One day.

These days my passion is road trips. Seeing something new or iconic is always great fun. Fly there, rent and drive a vehicle that I can't justify owning, Jeeps, sports car, Mustangs, great fun for a week or two.
In Europe the Alps are my favourite area, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, all those great mountain passes!
In the US, California and Utah keep me going back.
It takes a full year to research, plan, book, prepare, then actually go and do it. Each day is planned to get the most out of the time available, routes, hotels, attractions, sometimes places to eat and drink. It's all flexible though, and if another option appears on the day, we can do that instead.
The planning is free to do, and keeps me going through the 'hard times'. It's something to look forward to. Very Happy

I got into road trips in my early 20s. Love them as well. Route 66 probably took the most planning. There is so much to see and a lot of info out there. Canada in a 2018 convertible v8 mustang was one of my favourites. I didn’t upgrade the car in South Africa though as I didn’t want to draw any extra attention.

These days between my 8 month old son, 110, 318is and daily cars, I’ve enough to keep me busy and broke. 1989 Land Rover 110 CSW
