The old girl made the point last night when i was moaning about being bored, why dont you spend some money and enjoy yourself then
on the basis she didnt mean some good time girls, it got me wondering, money is wasted on my landies and bikes, travel and a lot of gigs (when we can travel) and season ticket for Sutton United i dont actually want anything at the moment - so reaching out, show me some inspiration please, what do you spend your money on to give you pleasure 1999 90 TD5 CSW 2006 110 TD5 HD Commercial |

From my teens through to my early 30s I had big motorbikes before I gave it up. No particular reason. Then, in my late 50s I rented a scooter to ride round Key West [Florida] and loved it. Soon after I went to Vietnam and rented a scooter to ride round Ho Chi Minh city [Saigon] for a week. 11 million residents. 8 million scooters. No noticeable traffic rules. What a blast that was.
Last August and in to my 60s I bought a Yamaha 125 TriCity scooter. Absolutely love it. Big enough to get round easily on, but not big enough to lead me in to doing something stupid. I can go and stop anywhere, look at things, take photos. On nice days I've been riding round all the villages in the region, stopping and looking round them instead of just driving through blindly like you do in a car when you're heading elsewhere. The plan is to get a side-loading carrier that hangs off the back of the 90 so I can take it on my camping trips. Then I can set up the camp and use the scooter for easy local exploration. Eventually I'll do a round Britain coastal tour. |

I spend enough keeping the Defender and a Foers ibex on the road, more wouldn't be enjoyable.
Would love a sports car but one of the above would have to go first. Was into hifi in my teens and twenties, loved it, but will need a detached house before I get into that again. One day. These days my passion is road trips. Seeing something new or iconic is always great fun. Fly there, rent and drive a vehicle that I can't justify owning, Jeeps, sports car, Mustangs, great fun for a week or two. In Europe the Alps are my favourite area, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, all those great mountain passes! In the US, California and Utah keep me going back. It takes a full year to research, plan, book, prepare, then actually go and do it. Each day is planned to get the most out of the time available, routes, hotels, attractions, sometimes places to eat and drink. It's all flexible though, and if another option appears on the day, we can do that instead. The planning is free to do, and keeps me going through the 'hard times'. It's something to look forward to. https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic67756.html |

A drone? Or a Tamiya remote control car kit? Or Lego? Or in my case all 3 Lego is especially good at wasting money as you can spend as much on a display case as the Lego kit itself. I’ve been working my way through the Lego Architecture series during lockdown, though took a break from that to build the space shuttle they recently released.

Amateur radio is another effective way of disposing of large lumps of cash although enjoyment can also be had via a more frugal involvement in the hobby. The technical aspects are also a good way to keep your brain exercised. I have a brother in law who has radio equipment from WWII tanks, ships and aircraft which he uses to make contacts all around the globe.

The only money I part with which I consider to be wasted is the money I pay in tax, since the people who spend it are generally unsatisfactory. The rest of my money isn't wasted, I spend it wisely but perhaps eccentrically.
