Managed to get the bottom of my inoperative difflock. Caused all sorts of strife during a day's laning in Dartmoor a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't even persuade it in with a screwdriver from underneath. Most odd.
I suspected it was a bit seized from lack of use by the previous owner so set about taking off the carpets and gaiter to try and lube it up. Turns out the problem was the rubber gearstick gaiter. The aperture for the HL lever was not wide enough to allow full sideways movement to engage the difflock. I changed it for the one from my TD5 which is stripped while it awaits decent weather for a paint job. Today I pulled into the garage, unloaded my stuff, had some fun with the dog and then hopped right in, and very slowly backed into the park with the door still open. DOH
Luckily it appears to only have damaged the bottom corner of the door. Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Roaming around 🇳🇴🇨🇭 |
