Fitted my new front brakes today, all went to plan... Was about to move on to the rears but noticed that the 12mm pad to pad clearance is too narrow for the 14mm disc!?
Any thoughts what’s going on here? Calipers, discs and pads are brand new and all part numbers are correct Disc looks to be slightly thick compared with specification of 14.1mm but even still, the 12mm pad spacing is still not right Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge > 110 XS Double Cab |

Haynes says 14.1mm for 110 and 130, 12.5mm for 90

Not sure - I was referring to the disc thickness, not the pads. Rgds.

It is hard to say for sure from the picture, but that caliper/pad combination looks 90 sized to me.
110 rear calipers/pads have a larger piston and, therefore, pad setup. I think piston diameter is 41mm for 90 and 46mm (or something like that) for 110 off the top of my head. Could it be that they've been incorrectly labelled? 2002 90 Td5 Station Wagon 1990 Vogue SE Triumph Tiger Explorer 1200 Td5 90 Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic50767.html Tdi 110 Thread https://www.defender2.net/forum/topic69562.html RRC Thread http://www.defender2.net/forum/topic54492.html Instagram http://www.instagram.com/george_grafton |

I just had a look at the apec brakes site, their catalogue shows two rear disc options for 1989 - 2007 110’s. 12.6mm and 14mm. The pad thicknesses being the same at 14.5mm. Looks like you need the thinner disc from that.
Have a look at their site to double check https://www.apecbraking.co.uk/Catalogue.aspx |

I think you might have bought the later pads but earlier calipers
Later calipers are wider to allow the thicker pads to be used. As you probably cant return now then i would just buy the older part number pads. Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Looks to me that you’ve been given 90 rear callipers not 110 ones.

They’re definitely 110 callipers as I fitted 46mm stainless pistons to them.
As rallysteve says, I think they might be pre 2007 ‘narrow’ calipers which need the narrower discs Ian mentions. > 110 XS Double Cab |

For closure on this...
110 narrow/early caliper part numbers = STC1268 (RHS) and STC1269 (LHS) 110 wide/late caliper part numbers = SMC500270 (RHS) and SMC500260 (LHS) > 110 XS Double Cab |

To also hopefully help anyone else running into this:
Earlier thin pads (upto 2A) - STC1601 Later thick pads (from 2A) - SFP000250 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |
