Driving your Defender 110 at Speed
Hi

After some feedback from others with the 110

I have the D300 110

Under 70 - no issues

As the speed rises above this i get a sensation that the car is pulsating...

I can not put my finger on the issue..

Its like a miss... but its not..

It seems worse on underlating roads or strong winds...

Anyone have anything similar.

The passenger does not notice anything.. and even for myself I am not sure its there or not.... the miss / judder / pulsing is that slight.

Today - no cruise control or any assist systems running...

Is it just aerodynamics and the car adding more power to deal with wind.... power coming in and out quickly?

Is it the suspension reacting?

I am at the dealer next week for a few minor other things... but need to better describe it to him..

You feel it on the car - not the steering or brakes....

Anyone?

THANKS

Did you specify the non DDATSL option when you chose your specification?

If you didn’t then

I like to drive fast.
Sometimes very fast.

The Defender is not the good car for that.
I guess that what you are feeling is a reminder of the laws of Physics.

Very heavy, un-aerodynamic vehicle on high heels Mr. Green Thumbs Up

(I drive my 90-D220 around 75-80 mph max Wink )

I notice it at 80 and 90...

Even then its not pronounced - sort of a slight hint of a pulse / vibration..

I am just trying to understand if its normal - or is there an issue with mine.

I did nit notice on the Demo - but I did not drive that over 70 MPH - due to dealer location and camera's

THANKS

No issues at speed in my D240 110, it gets a bit vocal at high revs but still very very smooth Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come

I've not noticed anything in my 110. It drives fantastically all the way up to 77mph (I don't go faster than that).

No problems cruising at 80mph or over - apart from the fuel economy drops off a cliff over about 75mph, but that’s to be expected.

My 90 on steel wheels and all terrain tyres feels very stable at 70mph, I’m not a speed demon so haven’t went higher than that. 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

The D240 demonstrator with full roof rack which I had for 1/2 day had a lot of wind noise at motorway speeds (and not just from the roof rack). I’m spoilt with a 4.4 L405 FFRR but nevertheless I’d expected better high speed refinement

Thanks all

Car went into the dealer Wednesday for multiple things... 2 of which occurred on the drive to the dealer.

I asked him to look at the slight pulsing too

But he was doubtful they would find anything as they are not allowed to drive above the speed limit.

Hope to get it back tomorrow?

Issues

1. Front L&R wheel Arch extensions not bonded correctly - big gaps appear when warm (10mm gap for like 75mm of trim)
2. Rear Number Plate - delaminating - water inside
3. Diff Display Differences between Main and Dash - flashing lock / unlock
4. The centre reading of the three displays on the ECO check page - never changes from 1.0 - the others change depending how you drive
5. Had to charge battery 3 times since new (7 weeks)
6. Service Needed on App - not on Car - that fixed itself last week?
7. Slight Pulsating at speed

Then the 2 new ones

8. Emergency Braking and lane Assist not working
9. Car when stopped at traffic lights - switched itself to Park and would not pull away of come out of park when requested.. Had to turn off the car and lock / unlock and restart...

So how many do you think will be fixed and how many - we could not find anything?

I am estimating 2/9 fixed and 6/9 - we could not find anything - 1 / 9 we are waiting parts..

Interestingly - its parked with the bonnet and boot open for most of yesterday.... not sure why the boot would be open... or the bonnet...?

Maybe they are changing suspension airbags when its there too?

Thoughts?

My history with new LR’s (9) has taught me they nail 1/3 of faults at first try. They get the next 1/3rd at the next try and then you never get the last ones done unless you threaten legal or go for it on socials. What normally happens is they offer a trade in on the Friday car (lots of Fridays in a JLR week) or money off a new LR. The dealers do like warranty work as it’s reasonably lucrative, so don’t think they are irritated by you coming back again.

There are no doubts, confirmed by many surveys, that JLR have higher levels of faults than other manufacturers. More returns to a dealer etc. If they were to treat you well like Tesla and make that journey as low hassle as possible then owner’s wouldn’t be feeling like leaving the brand. They could just fix at source and not push a poorly tested product to market in the beginning and we wouldn’t keep seeing posts like this. 1951 80" S1 2.0
