In doing a bit (lot) of investigation I’ve also come up with massive variance in prices.
I can get someone to supply and even fit the m57 kit for not very much, but reality bites when you need start digging into the finer details. Where is the engine from? What has been reconditioned and where. What else has been tweaked or included drivetrain wise to make sure it doesn’t fail after 18 months of use and out of warranty. Britpart or Winchester etc.. For me it’s about service and trust to know that firstly it won’t go bang and secondly that if it does it’ll get sorted with or without warranty for a fair price. Sorry to hear 4x4 fab don’t have the best rep so they’re out for now at least. |

Your car, your money, your choice,....and I do understand that.
So, no "smart alec" comments from me, so I can only suggest that, if you drive an LS3 powered Defender, it may give you the "patience" to save a bit more to get a very special engine. Pickles. |

Ive got an M57 conversion in my 2009 110 utility. I’m very, very happy with it. Been a lockdown project with MW Machines who are local to me. We’ve got it running the ZF 8 speed auto which is ace.
I’ve got history with the M57 and know it’s strengths, for me when my 150k 2.4 ruined the second holiday I nearly sold the defender, but found Marcus (MWMachines) on a YouTube video demoing his first 90 m57 development car and arrange to meet him for a chat. I really don’t have anything bad to say about the conversion, given the availability and low cost of the engines and boxes in the UK, and how reliable, strong and refined they are, for me it’s a no brainier. |

Have they remote mounted the LT230 behind the 8sp auto or is it using a conversion plate ? Mo The Land Rover 90 - Many are called, few are chosen. 50 Shades of Pennine Grey |

The lt230 mates to the 8hp using an adapter housing and shaft much like the puma mt82 gearbox. Works a treat.

Hello, I am interested in making change to M57 of my Puma. I want to keep manual gearbox. Best original mt82 reinforced gearbox or BMW gearbox?. The gap, gearbox fastening distances is the same? The only thing that is modified are the engine supports? What consumption in Liters do they do with this modification? Thanks in advance for everything. Sorry for my English, it's not technical. http://www.clublandrovertt.org/index.php?a...ype=avatar

Have a loom at the Facebook group ‘Land Rover and others BMW engine conversions’ which will have the information you’re asking for in the pinned post.
