If you look to the right of those washers you can see much more rust, and not from the washers. So have a very good look all under and over your vehicle, take lots of pictures, make a list and get the dearer to resolve.

Mines the same, dodgy batch of fixings I reckon. I was going to just swap them out for some new ones but decided to just leave it, I’ll get the dealer to look at it as and when it needs to go in for another reason.

It's been mentioned before but buried in the main discussion thread...
I see that some Facebook owners are confusing it with the exhaust/muffler. JLR issued this for that: SSM 75174 - Customer Complains of Rear Muffler Discoloured Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge In terms of JLR's response, they will hopefully be following what they have done previously for other models with similar issues: Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge Click image to enlarge |

Is it supposed to be a sealed unit, or can you open it to clean/dry?

I know that Gerry said he wanted the new Defender to inherit the DNA of its predecessors, but reading this thread makes me fear that some of the defective genes have also been perpetuated.
Rust and water-filled lights on a Defender, who'd have thought it! |

Don't forget, they've opened the 1st chapter in the new water ingress manual and chapter 2 ~ windscreen leaks is just off the press.

Yes mines going in for a warranty fix for windscreen parts and a water ingress problem both are unbeknown to me.

Mines is in the now for the rust and water in lights plus a few electrical faults. Just been told that the rusting might not be covered under warranty and there just waiting on confirmation then they will let me know for sure. Anything i can do if its not covered under warranty? It looks horrendous and is clearly noticeable.

Where is the rust? I find it hard to believe that any part that starts rusting in the 3 year warranty period is not covered. Get in touch with LR solutions and asked them if it’s covered. The dealerships will try anyitp

I asked the dealer to look at it when it was in for the recall - got the usual brush-off response along the lines of “that will always happen sir, it’s not covered by the warranty”.
Not worth the argument, I’ll just swap the bolts out for new ones when I get around to it. |

Its not a case of swapping bolts on mine, the metal panel has two large rust marks on mine. One where the bolts are and another further down, if you zoom in on the photo you can just start to see it. Unacceptable on a car less than a year old.
