A boat engine - that's an interesting thought. No history that would make me think of that, but not ruling out anything..!
The lathes... The first is an old watchmaker's lathe. Like the engine, it's in a sorry state and I don't think complete. I do have some pictures of it, but can't find them! The other two are much more (relatively) recent, and have been in use until the last couple of years: Click image to enlarge The Colchester Student has been fairly easy to find and value - but I know will be physically difficult to shift - it must weigh two tons. It's an amazing bit of kit - and seems to have the most ridiculous amount of adjustment / tooling etc. I don't really understand why it's called a Student - it seems quite serious! Click image to enlarge The ZYTO is proving more difficult. I've found out a bit about it - but not seen any other actual examples. I've the learnt the most from eBay. Which is never good. It's a lovely thing, and if I had my way, I'd be keeping it... Thanks again for all the REALLY helpful information on the engine. It's much appreciated. |

Strongly doubt that. Boat engines are normally water cooled, even very old ones. Also the sprocket on the fly wheel.. older small boat engines had cone clutches if without a gearbox. Nice lathes there. Wish I was closer. 1988 90 Hard Top, 19J Diesel Turbo, Shire Blue - Restoration ongoing 2012 90 CSW, 2.2TDCI, Santorini Black |

Oh, wow. That's fairly conclusive proof. And by far the closest looking I've seen.
'My' one even looks to be in better condition, mostly. Albeit missing quite a bit. There are a few corners of the garage I've not ventured in to, I know what to look for now. (Everything else was VERY neatly bundled up together though, so I'm not expecting much.) Lathes - thanks. Lathes.co.uk has been my nightly read for a week or so now! We'll probably list them on there at some point - I certainly don't begrudge the advert fee. Like here, SUCH a good resource. |
