What a fantastic project and a 200tdi powered version would make a very useable vehicle. Darren

A very nice project, good luck! I look forward to seeing more as it evolves.
I don't know that you and I have quite the same definition of "useable"! It would still be huge, lumbering, and uncomfortable, but might be more drivable than the Perkin 4-pot. With a straight six it would have been fairly respectable in its day. I have always had an evil dream of building a hybrid out of a IIB and a a Puma 110. That would be interesting! |

Everything's relative, of course Compared to the Perkins, a 200tdi will be streets ahead. Darren

Very nice! With the original gearbox they will never be fast, but do sound nice with a six pot going along at full chat.
I don't think I could stomach a diesel one though, you are sat on top of the engine - the diesels are bad in enough in a series with a bulkhead between you and the engine. I'd certainly not be looking for a diesel powered series ever again. 2011 110 USW 1973 Series III 1-Ton 1972 Series III 1-Ton Cherrypicker 1969 IIA 1-Ton 1966 IIA 88" |

Thanks everyone, it’s looking like a good project. I’ll try and keep it up updated so long as I can keep up with Dad’s tinkering (which being retired means he’s got more time than me).
I’m not actually sure, given that he’s had both hips replaced that he’ll even be able to get up into the beast, but he’s a stubborn old farmer so I expect he’ll find a way. As for the engine choice he did mention something about knowing where there was a rover V8 going cheap.... 90 - Gone but not forgotten 200 tdi - sold for a song 3 Discoveries - 1/2/3 - cost me a fortune but loved 'em all 2.4 Puma 90 - Current obsession |
