I am pretty sure that when my bulkhead was swapped the engine loom was disconnected and fed back via the main loom hole in the bulkhead. 1999 Defender TD5 110

Bulkhead loom doesnt require any de-pinning to remove/fit. From experience it is worth removing the cubby box/centre seatbox panel and the gearbox tunnel to give you access to feed the length that runs from the N/S of the bulkhead down to the ECU in the seatbox. You will need to take the whole dash off to do the swap. The worst bit of the bulkhead loom is trying to feed the wiring down the a-pillars and correctly insert the grommets.
Engine loom is a real faff to do with the wings and inlet manifold on, the glowplug connectors are very fragile and the alternator plug is a swine to get to/release. Depending on your experience time will vary but personally i would probably take a couple of days to stripdown, swap both looms and refit dash etc. It will take longer if your tunnel screws are all rusty etc. Dry silicone spray is well worth it for helping to ease the large grommets into the bulkhead and seatbox. Dont be tempted to try and force the Sumitomo multi connectors apart/together. They are easily damaged and pins bent. It is worth doing a like for like comparison when you have the old loom off to make sure any grommets/clips etc are swapped over. If you have any damaged connector shells most of the connectors are relatively easy to de-pin. Let me know if you need any more info. Cheers, Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Sounds good, i started with a semi basic loom and added a load of ancillary wiring for my additional lighting, heated seats, heated screen, split charging and centre HMI so went through a similar exercise myself.
Click image to enlarge Also started with a TD5 bulkhead loom and stripped/modified it for my v8 project. Depending in what year your base vehicle and new loom are you might find that you need to add the cable for the water in fuel sensor. My 02' loom had it but the 05' loom I used didnt and hadnt realised until it was too late! Steve 02' 110 TD5 Double Cab Rebuild Thread |

Cheers Steve,
I got lucky in that the new loom date is within a month of my old one so everything should just work 🤞 Trying to work out cruise control at the mo then I have heated mirrors with puddle lamps in the arms to run wires for then hopefully it's ready to swap. Engine loom doesn't appear to need any work I need to peg board it like you have, it's not good working on the floor..... Cheers Ben |
