Never too old to learn.... eh?
Boyhood dream come true last month and got my first Td5 90. 22 years old with body and engine in relatively good nick. Unfortunately for the last few days the hazards, radio and clock failed to work. Bumped off my kerb today and hey presto all working. Loose wire somewhere ....... but where to start? Any pointers greatly received. I’m a total novice but willing to learn. I once knew my engines in the days before they filled the engine compartment with more things to go wrong. Cheers in advance . Question Mr. Green

Welcome

Start with the basics. Open the fuse compartment in front of the gear stick and push all of the fuses to ensure that they are fully pushed in.

Hopefully this simple solution works for you.

Thumbs Up

Fuses all checked and appear well embedded. Should it happen again I'll take the time to follow the green, green brown, purple , white, etc , etc Laughing a time when I'm pleased not to be colour blind.

Next post I'll make sure is in the right topic area Rolling Eyes

Agree - hazard unit, radio and clock all share a common earth point on a TD5. JB

Honestly you are on a fabulous LR journey, plus the TD5 is a super engine for the DIYer. Don't fear the electrics they're not that tricky. First job, as others have said is to go around and clean up your major earth points, see plan:

All you need are a wire brush, scrap of wet n dry and some electrical grease to refit and protect it all. Good first project...

Shout out if you need help and if you are planning on keeping the 90 for a while think about saving up for a nanocom... Blinkin' great piece of diagnostic gear and worth every penny IMHO. There is usually a group buy going on someplace.

Vera for me is for life. love her to bits already. Got the Missus driving her around Oxfordshire and we both agree , worth investing in the fun and unpredictability . Will seek those earthing points. It’s a matter of deduction... isn’t it Very Happy ?

Last advice.

Side windows rattle and note there are no brush inserts. What are these actually called? Look at some websites such as Bearmach and Rimmer Bros , but these inserts don’t seem to be itemised. Are they? it’s me or are they called something a little more technical?

Rattling rear windows are a perennial issue. If they’re not rattling your windows have fallen out! JB

After days of checking earthing points and connections etc. ,finally located the problem . Hidden in a location not as per diagrams was blue connector 0287 (K109). Cannot get to it without removing lower dash, but giving it a tap makes the hazards, radio, internal lights and clock come back on again. Imminent weekend project to permanently rectify the fault . So good to find the cause. Thanks to all the advice offered.
