Castrol edge professional in America
Anyone been able to find where I can get my hands on the Castrol edge professional e c5 0w-20 speced for the Defender? Most auto parts stores around don't carry it/never even heard of Professional level let alone the right spec. From internet search it seems that a lot of EU websites might have the oil but buying and having that shipped here seems over kill. As a last resort I will if anyone has a recommendation on legit sites to ship that.

Thanks for any tips.

Alex,

Have you tried searching for the Land Rover specification, not “Castrol Edge”.

It’s the same spec for LR and Jaguar, so there must be a suitable US product.

The spec is in the online owners manual and the IGuide.

Ford also sells an oil here that meets the spec so it might also be available in the USA Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed!

Castrol EDGE Professional EC 0W-20 is exclusively available through Land Rover dealers, it's not sold in stores. There is an alleged retail version of it, called Castrol EDGE 0W-20 EC, that meets the same specs of the professional stuff (both STJLR.51.5122 and STJLR.03.5006) and available in 1-quart bottles at retail. To date, I have not found a single source for it, online or down the street, here in the US, and I have looked. You'll find plenty of stores selling Castrol EDGE 0W-20 US, which is not the same thing. If you must have Castrol, your local LR dealer may be the only option for EDGE Professional 0W-20 EC.

You'll have better luck finding Mobil 1 ESP X2, another synthetic that meets both JLR specs and can easily be found at Amazon, Walmart and other sources. It's a new product, yet not terribly ovepriced at about $9 - 10/qt, and probably every bit as good as Castrol.

I use Liqui Moly Special Tec LR, yet another synthetic approved by JLR under specification STJLR.51.5122, which is what the shop manual in the US recommends for oil changes on my P400. I replace oil and filter every 7500 miles, so am not too concerned about not using the genuine article, but I still want to use something approved until my factory warranty is up. 2020 NAS Defender 110 HSE 5-seater / Silver / Khaki / Black Pack / Black Roof / Satin Film / Cold Pack / Off-Road Pack / Advanced OR Pack / Comfort + Convenience Pack / Sirius + HD radio / HUD / Meridian Surround

Thanks umbertob. Yeah I am fast approaching the 7000 and wanted to change before the 21K recommended. I wanted to get the approved spec until the factory warranty was up too. I will look for other alternatives.

Will all the bottles have on them the STJLR.03.5006 on them? Do you have the 2021 because my owners manual for the p400 mentioned the 5006 version. I was able to find the 51.5122 but not the 5006.

Ignoring them selling the official stuff in 1l containers

They wouldn’t fill you a container of it from the barrel round the back?

That’s bad form Mike

Laughing I'll call them again and see. Otherwise might check with the other LR dealer near me.

The owner manual says 5006, the shop manual says 5122 for my 2020 P400 as well (see below.) One is more suitable for fuel economy, the other for colder climates. Bottom line is that you will be in the clear by using either specs for warranty purposes, however Mobil 1 ESP X2 I mentioned above is approved by JLR under both specs ( just like the Castrol OEM stuff), if your dealer is unwilling to help you - or wants to charge you $20/quart for it.

Mobil 1 ESP X2 would be my first choice currently - but I bought I crapload of Liqui Moly Special Tec LR a few months back when Amazon had it on special, so I am set for a while, lol.

Called the dealer back and got someone else this time. They do sell the oil and its $11 a qt. Figured that wasn't a terrible deal so took them up on it. Thanks for all the info though! Not sure why the first guy didn't know they sell oil there -_-
