TD5 injector woes
So, after some major welding on Gertie our 1999 td5 110 ( where the bolt holes on YRM outrigger nor the britpart one lined up with the body) it was time to have the injector seals changed.

Was going to do it myself but at the last moment thought I'd let the garage do it. Good job I did ....

All 6 rocker arm bolts sheared! On top of that the camshaft lobes were pretty shagged (technical term). Luckily I just happened to have a spare td5 (10p) engine in the garage ( as you do Smile ) so they put that head on and seems to be running. Understandably they were a bit twitchy about doing the injectors on that head just inc case so going to run her for a bit b4 attempt 2. However ...


Anyone else had/heard of rocker cover bolts shearing ? Is it a common occurrence?

So which was it, the cover, or the tappets, or the bolts holding down the rocker shaft?

The tappet screws are a little dodgy since they are hollow and have a waisted section where the oil feed enters the tappet screw from the rocker arm. It is relatively easy to damage them, especially if you don't realise this. They are also depressingly expensive to replace from what I remember.

The cover bolts shouldn't shear unless they've been massively overtightened at some time.

Similarly the rocker shaft bolts shouldn't be a problem unless they have been abused at some stage.

As it is a TD5, I would also be a little surprised if it had 6 rockers, although I think this may indicate that you are actually referring to the six rocker shaft bolts.

Censored ... Big Cry Now there is a bit of thread stuck 65mm down a very small hole...

The worst of it is that four out of the remaining five bolts still in position fell ridiculously tight. It looks like the garage I had the head gasket done at didn't replace the bolts, used thread lock and some out of this work gorilla strength when tightening down the bolts. Big Cry

What to do folks, what to do...
