I had a chat with Paul at Patriot earlier about a rack for my 130 and asked if they could make one for my wife’s New Defender .
It turns out they’ve already made one for the mountain rescue team vehicles . Serious bit of kit with a far more generous payload than the LR version ! Some pics below https://www.patriotproducts.online/galleri...galleries/ https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

Agreed, the luggage rail needs to go and it needs to be a foot or two shorter ! It would also help if it was black.
Aesthetics aside it’s a very practical addition and loaded up would probably look great . https://www.instagram.com/hustynminepark/ |

It'll be a great product, of that I have no doubt, but in those images it looks more to me as though someone has just collected it with a New Defender and is taking it home to fit their classic Defender! It looks as though it has been 'plonked' on top.

Hi,
I have a Patriot on my TD5 90, but that’s just not right for a New Defender. ![]() Click image to enlarge Scrumps 90 D250 HSE Tasman Blue 24MY L461 RRS Verasine Blue 05 TD5 90 CSW Cairns Blue 1967 MGB BRG 1944 Willy’s MB OD green 1942 Willy’s MB OD green |

It seems a bit tall and ungainly, is that to allow for the pano roof? Maybe a closer fit for vehicles without? 24MY 90 D250 HSE, Tasman Blue

I wonder if the height thing is a bit of an optical illusion? Height looks very similar to Front Runner rack:
![]() Click image to enlarge C section mounts look a little unfinished, are they all shimmed differently? ![]() Click image to enlarge It also looks like it could do with an extra mount towards the front ~ 3 connections per side versus 5: ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge The biggest issue with my Patriot rack is the lack of channelling in the main planks. It would be so much more versatile with. |

I wonder if it’s placed so high because of the rear view camera shark fin thing? Any lower and the rack would either block the view or be touching it. LR racks seem to have a cut out in the rack that goes round the fin.

Does anyone know the manufacturer maximum allowable weight the vehicle can carry on the roof?
How heavy is patriot rack? 130's have feeling's as well you know ![]() |

It looks distinctly like it's got 3 cross bars fitted, and the owner is carrying a patriot 110 roof rack home to put on their original defender....
Just doesn't look like it's actually fitted. |

With the figures so low, it does seem pointless having a roofrack; but maybe that's just the way JLR have presented the figures.
I think the roofrack has a performance envelope and includes criteria such as speed, side slope angle, to mention just two. If you were to graph these against weight carried then for any increase in weight carried you could adjust the other variable. If there's a static loading of 300kg and a full dynamic loading of 100kg ~ how does the loading move between the two figures. No different to quoting peak power or torque rather than than showing both as a curve on a graph. |
