Did you order the Pano sunroof like in the picture?
Looks great! |

Yes added pano roof too.
Spec gets pretty close to HSE or even x-dynamic but wanted to stay away from Windsor leather or painted lower panels, as trying to strike a balance between utilitarian/wipe-down clean and comfort. |

Al,
If you’re close to HSE spec, give it another look. When you come to change, an HSE is an HSE in the book, an SE with a load of extra’s is still “only” an SE. I had the same issue between loaded RRS HSE or AB. Went AB in the end. I've been round and round on the SE - HSE - XS route, adding options then deciding to get the next level up. The XS is almost the perfect compromise, though I do understand why some people won't want the painted lower trim (it'll lose some of the Defender look) and the alloys on the XS, although they are a premium option on other specs, are also less "Defender". I think my XS will look more like a Disco so I get why someone would stick with an SE. Part of the XS spec includes the Pano roof which swayed it for me (and I was 2 days late in ordering the FE MY21).
They are all good choices. I'll change my mind tomorrow... |

I hear that. Exact same spec but HSE rather than SE comes in £2.5k more but without massive benefit for me (I worry that extended Windsor leather moves the needle closer to luxury SUV than what I am looking for) but resale is something to think about.
Although the plan is for this to be a long-termer (although I always say that until the next thing comes along) Also I wonder if the analogy with the RRS still applies here? The RRS is a luxury car so adding more luxury can only be a good thing and make it more desirable when it comes to resale. I'm sure there are may who see the Defender as a luxury car too (and that's fine) but there may also be a market who actively prefer lower specs? |

Al,
The RRS analogy always works. YOUR extra’s are worth nothing come re-sale. Having purchased our last 11 Land Rovers from the same dealer, 8 from the same salesman, I know I get good advice. When (if) you come to resell your SE, they will only give you “book SE” money irrespective of all the money you’ve spent on YOUR choice of extra’s. The argument is that when the dealer puts it on the forecourt they will get the argument from punters that they don’t want X,Y & Z that you chose - so they want a bargain. How many people on here in the “Discounts” thread have been trying to dissect all the dealer spec cars to try and get what they want for 10p? Try asking your supplying dealer what they think the trade-in difference may be between SE and HSE. Your call - your cash. Just trying to offer a different view. Ha - thanks Scrumps - advise absolutely appreciated and I know that options are value-less come resale.
I will give it some more thought. How much does the extended leather that comes with the HSE impact the utilitarian vibe of the cabin? |

Al,
We have no issue with the full leather. I think there is a recent post that for 22MY LR have changed “normal” upholstery to leather facings with cloth(?) sides so you’ll be part way there anyway. We have had HSE (or better) trim in our last 6 Land Rovers, we live in rural Somerset and it’s not been a issue, in fact I’d say that a quick wipe round with a damp cloth or leather cleaner is a lot easier than scrubbing and drying the cloth in our TD5 90 CSW. 22MY has changed SE seating from
"Grained leather and robust woven textile seat facings" Click image to enlarge to "Grained leather seat facings" Click image to enlarge So I think after stain-gate any form of cloth has been banished. I imagine Grained Leather is rougher (more like standard Merc synth-leather) whereas Windsor is smoother (more like Jag leather). |

Scrumps, you're comments are 100% correct and since you said this I'm thinking about the spec I've ordered on my 90HT which is £10k on extra's. May have to rethink my options list once again.

Andy,
I’ve not bothered much with the HT as I’m not in the market for one. It may be different for HT if the higher specs are not available, a “loaded” low spec might have “added value”. Just a thought. You have a point of discussion, the car is for me to run on the business and I am coming from a FF L405 so the extra's will be what I'm used to but maybe not at the full cost over a 2 year term (I've never kept anything more than 2 years). Mind, my Range Rovers have lost a LOT more than this so maybe I'm kidding myself.

Hah. There's me with my totally base no-option Evoque to trade (good) for my heavily optioned base Defender. At least this is the first time in my life I've committed the aberration of buying a new car before the old one was totally gone. My Morris Marina I even kept despite the cracked piston ring, and handed it down to my sister.
