Cracked Head?

Can anyone tell me if the following symptoms are the sign of a cracked head?
While driving the temp guage flicked up to the red and back to normal a few times. The heater is only blowing cold air and there is fluid leaking from what I think is part of the heat exchanger as can be seen in the picture!
Also would it be ok to still drive or am I better waiting to get it seen to? Thanks in advance

Certainly wouldn't run it without further investigation.
Td5 head crack more likely into / from exhaust.
I'm thinking head gasket?
When you squeeze the top hose does it feel like filled with coolant. If not then likely air locked too. Ex scottish & southern 110 Td5 van (shed) with PTO driven winch (L-R special vehicles)

Thanks for the reply, I decided not to drive it. I'll test the top hose in the morning Thumbs Up

Looks like the exhaust manifold is wet on the edge.

Could be a simple case of replacing the coolant housing (the piece the top hose and temperature sensor attach to) and/or top hose. Charlie

Remove the top hose, and you may find one of two things. As soon as you compress the spring clip, it falls apart, and that’s why you have a leak. Or, remove the top hose and you find that the spigot that you attach the pipe too has turned to some porous white ploppy poop. (This is what happened to my best mates Td5)

Worth checking Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Mine drips from that top hose as well. I fitted a second jubilee clip and it seemed to stop it.

Agree with above suggestions, sounds like a leak and now an air lock. This could cause the variable temp changes as steam increases temp with the air in the system.

There is a coolant plug/bung in the head. These can leak or in my case, come loose. Cheap fix but a bit of a faff tbh (not for me though, a mate did it Laughing ). Also worth checking.

Thank you all for the replies, it turned out to be a broken clip, thus causing the leak Thumbs Up

I feel a bit silly that it was something so simple, but I'm starting to panic more as she's done 340k kilometres and i'm waiting for terminal problems. Surprised
