Driven cautiously while going through the 2000 miles break in period that is stated in Land Rover iGUIDE. I have bought the vehicle for long term ownership I plan on keeping the vehicle for as long as it lasts so I’m being very careful with it in the break in period.

The problem the differentials. The car is to go off the road immediately and I’ve been given a curtesy car (range rover). The problem is software issue and is a new fault never been reported in any other defender before so this could be a whole lot of fun will update more when I get feedback from garage engineers.

I'd check to see if they just flush the oil and update software as per SSM 75152 for Range Rover & Discovery and if that's all they do, then will they extend warranty on transfer box; similar for rear diff.

Yes this is causing all the other problems both differentials, abs, 2WD, also some new faults were found by the LR assist engineer today, it is a software fault and never been reported on a defender before. I need to see what the dealership engineers say next week. I’m gearing myself up to hand it back though not buying a bricked car.

^^^ this is what I’d be worried about as even though the problem might be fixed, what’s to say that lasting damage to the drivetrain hasn’t been done and after say 4 years of light use the diff gives up completely when it’s out of warranty. I think that the dealer should offer to put new components on the car at the least.

Land Rover have got involved now and they are going to take matters up with the dealership. Someone that works for LR on the Facebook group seen my post and PM with instructions of who to contact at LR, 5 minutes later they were on the case.

So is this another case of the dealership not wanting to know unless you get LRA involved and they they have to do something because LRA reports the faults back to LR? Pangea Green D250 90 HSE with Air Suspension, Off-road Pack, Towing Pack, Black Contrast roof , rear recovery eyes, Front bash plate, Classic flaps all round, extended wheel arch kit and a few bits from PowerfulUK Expel Clear Gloss PPF to come
2020 D240 1st Edition in Pangea Green with Acorn interior. Now gone - old faithful, no mechanical issues whatsoever ever but the leaks and rattles all over the place won’t be missed! |

Not LRA, someone at Land Rover head office is dealing with it. Surprisingly when I dropped the defender off today nobody at the dealership knew about me coming in, the Range Rover curtesy car LRA arranged was broken and off the road and the service department didn’t know what was wrong with my vehicle I had to tell them everything LRA said to me. Worst service I have ever had from a car manufacturer. I got a RRS and it definitely is not for me, the defender is so much better to drive (when it works). Click image to enlarge |

Another problem that the LR assist engineer noticed yesterday was the engine coolant was nearly empty!

Sorry you are having so much trouble with your car.
I would press LR to take the car back and provide you with a brand new one. If you intended to keep the car long term you have so many potential problems for the future. Potential hidden damage to the transmission and differentials, and now who knows what damage from running low on coolant. I worry that the dealer technicians are not capable of dealing with the software and technology in the latest cars. |
