Matt,
You can either buy the “new” LR Dashcam kit or you can get a 12v or USB tap from the overhead console from powerfuluk. Scrumps 90 D250 HSE Tasman Blue 24MY L461 RRS Verasine Blue 05 TD5 90 CSW Cairns Blue 1967 MGB BRG 1944 Willy’s MB OD green 1942 Willy’s MB OD green |

Hey Scrumps
I did take a look at those taps from powerfuluk but they are also permanent live so it doesn't solve the issue of the battery being drained. Unless I can find an ignition live, it's looking like I need to find a tap which is voltage sensitive, switching off when the voltage gets too low. Thanks, Matt |

In my Velar I just ran a long USB to the socket in the rear (and hid the cable, of course).

^^^ Same in my Discovery 3 - permanent feed is not an issue if you have an in-line 'voltage monitor' which will chop the power if the source voltage (from battery) drops below a certain level. My old Blackvue (and I assume all new ones are the same) has a parking mode enabled by lack of movement from G sensor and which allegedly is lower power usage anyway and it only captures footage if triggered by external movements Steve N | 21MY Defender | 08MY Discovery 3 (history) | 06MY Discovery 3 (ancient history)

The USBs in the Velar were not permanent - they'd go off with the ignition, so ideal for a dashcam.
I can't say I've tried in the Defender, but I would assume it's the same. |

We've ended up using a spared fused output from the fusebox. It turns off a few minutes after the car has shutdown - thanks for all your suggestions.
