I just cleaned mine back to metal and repainted them (by hand, but you can't really tell) about 2yrs ago during a full rebuild and they still look smart.

The original blocks from Land Rover were quite cheap. I bought 4 , about £12 each, and sprayed them up in the shed using aerosol cans. One set is body colour, the second set is contrasting black.
Just remember they are left and right handed. I usually get 18 months to two years before they need to be refinished |

I guess mine were original and had barely any paint left. If my repaint even lasts half as long before looking the same i will be very happy.
1994 to 2019 is 25yrs so i'll prepare to do them again around 2031 if they are bothering me ![]() |

Just strip back the originals and repaint them... These are mine stripped back just before repainting in expoxy and then Oslo blue top coat. For some reason I don’t have a picture of them painted but you can see how the other hinges came up better than new.
Hinge blocks below were in a poor state and are nearly 20 years old now, you would never know once painted. ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge ![]() Click image to enlarge 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Oslo Blue 2006 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Tonga Green (Gone ) 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Zambezi Silver (Gone) |

Hinges look great. Did you replace the pins while you were at it or just clean them up?

Old pins were fine when cleaned up. You would surprised just how well the parts clean up once the surface rust is removed. A decent rub down, good primer and paint will see then last a long time
![]() Hence my advice just to repaint the old ones... 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Oslo Blue 2006 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Tonga Green (Gone ) 2002 Td5 | 90 County Station Wagon | Zambezi Silver (Gone) |

I have a set of the ones Huttopia did on here, along with a set of Britpart Billet ones. The Britpart ones are actually very good, they aren’t billet like they state but they were anodised black and were on a 90 that lives right by the sea and they have not corroded at all. I recently removed them and painted them to match the vehicle and after three years I am still very impressed with them for the money (£50 I think)
