Only times my Td5 wont start [ same as yours cranks fine] i get out - lock it- unlock it, then she fires first crank, if that aint working, i would check the Crank-Pos.Sensor, connection for corrosion,

TD5s are great engines but do like to be looked after.
If possible use genuine filters and good oil if self servicing (my last service using LR filters cost £48 for oil x2. air and sump washer) fuel filter was replaced previous year.
Mine had starting issues couple of years back, had delphi injector washers put on and a year later same problem so had genuine washers put on and no problems so far.
good luck

Couldn't agree more, i mechanically mollycoddle mine. it has a full engine service approx every 4000 mile, with all transmission and axles done every other service. Frequent use of decent diesel additives and we have 30k of problem free miles

I do about 10k per year and it is my daily vehicle (still makes me smile!)
So i only service once a year and this has served me well....however this year i have had vehicle go into limp mode with engine light on. Had new throttle peddle which seemed to work, one month later it had similar issue and have now replaced MAF sensor. Two weeks ago noticed leak from fuel filter so managed to get genuine fuel filter housing and replaced fuel filter. Slight leak still so today took new filter off and unclipped fuel lines. Tightened up the bolts and reconnected lines. Seems like one line was not seated correctly so sorted that and so far so good no leaks Very Happy
Although housing was genuine i had heard about the 4 pipes may not be in correct order so when i removed old housing checked against that and glad i did as there was two pipes in wrong order (one has small white filter on one end).
So, double check Whistle
