Same power steering reservoir cap as the old Defender, proof of any were needed that this really is the true successor 🤪 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

Just looks fantastic. As in how it 'looks' to have been thought about, designed and now being built. Fantastic detail. Apparently building this and meeting EU regs was impossible. Gerry will be eating his cravat soon. LR cannot be enjoying watching these updates at all. And despite the understandable frustration that Bridgend wasn't chosen, you can see why. A 500m€ SUV factory (built by Germans to boot) basically ready to go. How long would that have taken to build in Bridgend, two years.....after a few years of planning c*cking about with the council.

So, well into development and apart from the nose spot lights, I've yet to be disappointed. (And I loved the USW that slipped past in the background). Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

I've not been everywhere, but it's on my list.....

The transmission tunnel is huge ~ reminds me of the one in a Hummvee:

The wall thickness on the rear crossmember appears huge:

Anyone recognise the radiators? They look to be a cast top:

Has anyone seen the fuel tank capacity - if this is it, it looks huge:

It looks like there's a seal around the engine bay which might be air tight with the bonnet closed:

The alpine lights seem a bit pointless, looks like solid structure behind them? 90S D250 fuji and loving it.

They are not alpine lights, but rather tie down points.

Almost looks like you could leave it off entirely. It looks like a substantial front crossmember:

That's excellent. Yup. No doubt ARB etc will have an upgrade. Likewise for the twin in-grille fog lights which are horrible. No doubt there will be a facelift grille that does without them. Thumbs Up Monsieur Le Grenadier

Thumbs Up

As Ratcliffe and others have said, being able to swap out bits and customise has been built into the design and construction of the Grenadier from the outset.

Hopefully, not too many fir trees and one time use lantern clips. Whistle

The closer the Grenadier gets to production, the more uncomfortable LR must feel about not making a simple, ultra robust version.

JLR should have made two versions of the Defender (like they do with the Disco).

The Defender Sport (the New Defender); and
The "Defender Utility" (basically the Grenadier).

Even if LR sold it in limited numbers as a loss leader, the brand would benefit from the notion that they sell the "best" off road vehicle in the world.

It's not like a "Defender Utility" would even adversely impact the sales of the New Defender, if anything, it could help to improve them. Have a "Utility" at the dealerships to let prospective buyers have a go and realise how rough it is; then sell them the "Sport" for an extra £20k or something.

It's a shame the Grenadier won't be built in the UK. But the German plant, with the former Mercedes work force and a large chuck of its supply chain on it's doorstep, is kind of a no brainer. 2011 CSW XS 90
