More on that: "But Land Rover points out that the range now includes simpler coil-sprung models and the commercial hardtop variant, so the lowest price isn’t far above a well-specced double-cab Toyota Hi-Lux or similar." And quite interestingly: "Collins said “we are already talking to fleets and utilities” about sales of the hardtop models. A pickup version would go further towards satisfying true country working people. And on them rests much of the oft-repeated claim that the Defender is all about ‘authenticity’." https://www.topgear.com/car-news/land-rove...e-comeback |

An awful lot of pickups end up with a canopy.

What nobody sees this as a "say what?" moment. Runs counter to everything they have said previously ~ are they desperate for sales, looking to queer the pitch for Ineos, both, or is talk all it will turn out to be? |

Seems to be on the wrong JLR crib sheet ~ they've turned the page on:
"An unnamed, high-level insider from Jaguar Land Rover said the automaker canceled the variant from the future product plan, while speaking with Motoring from Australia. "Why would you buy a dual-cab ute when you see what you can put in the back of one of these – this is already a ute with a roof," the source said as an explanation for the decision." https://www.motor1.com/news/370273/land-ro...-canceled/ |

Having owned a 110 Double Cab i can confirm I found it to be cool looking but nigh on pointless configuration, station wagon makes sooooo much more sense, just doesn't look as cool. 90S D250 fuji and loving it.

Not so, there are animals I can legally transport in the back of my DC that I couldn't legally transport in a USW.
This forum seems to suffering from a bad case of "I can't see the point in it so there isn't any point in it", rather then recognising that other users may have different needs and views. A pickup with a canopy is different in many ways to a hardtop, and there are things you can do with each that you can't with the other. It doesn't mean either is pointless. |

I did say "I" found it pointless in a practical sense. I also didn't say I wouldn't buy a new defender DC if they brought one out. Depend how cool it looked vs lack of practicality 90S D250 fuji and loving it.

Besides the legal perspective, there's also the practical:
Click image to enlarge Smell, mud and hair kept out of the cabin - and I reckon he enjoys watching the cars and countryside go past. My only concern is whether any exhaust fumes get sucked back in. I'd like to know if LR or anyone else has ever done any tests? |

Fair point - I have considered it and never seen any signs of discomfort from him on journeys. If the rain is heavy I will drop the tilt.
I've got a temperature data logger, so might try and get some real time readings to compare with ambient temperatures. |
