As far as I recall - this is how it works on Defender. You won’t be able to have alarm without immobiliser and you won’t be able to unlock by just by key and start engine as immobiliser will want fob present.
There was no way to turn off passive immobilization when unlocked too. I used to find this a pain, especially when you stop off road to spot/recover etc. for long enough to activate it, even though keys were in the ignition in off position. |

Hi SteveG,
Yes, this is exactly the same behaviour as mine. I'm quite happy with it using the fob, but it would have been nice to have a way of bypassing the fob if there was a fob loss or damage. Thank you very much for your input. Cheers, Lionel |

This is interesting and curious. A while back I was having starting issues with my '07 Puma, and disabled the PI to see if that made a difference. For a while I ran the vehicle with the PI disabled, and would leave the vehicle unlocked with no keys in it whilst working nearby in remote places (no need to lock it, and it was handy for getting tools etc). The PI never kicked in, and I was always able to start the car with the key without needing to use the plip. I don't see why the Puma would be different to the TD5 in this respect, but perhaps it is.
As far as I know it is not possible to configure the Puma to full key-only operation, to prevent alarm activation the doors must be unlocked with the plip. It is possible on the TD5 Disco2, but that uses the BCU and not a 10AS for the alarm functions. |

When I bought this car in 2004 (new), it had the alarm/immob. working, probably much as it is now if I can remember correctly, but at the 1st service I asked them to turn it off as we were doing some long bush trips, & I didn't want to be caught with a failed plip. The alarm was only re-activated when I eventually purchased some diagnostic equipment, firstly a Lynx & more recently a Nanocom.
It seems to be an "all or nothing" situation with the PI. Can't avoid it with the alarm working. Perhaps the Pumas ARE different in this respect. Still, I can turn it off quite easily with the Nanocom for long trips, I suppose. Cheers, Lionel |
