Check that the rear door is a neutral, and check the wires in the rubber boot from body to door. Does demister work ok?

Check Fuse 10, it's the ignition supply to the rear door wiper motor relay and the rear washer switch. 1988 90 Td5 NAS soft top

Check the loom inside the rubber flexi tube between the door and the body. I had one wire broken and a few others where the insulation had cracked on my 2005 TD5 Defender. It is repairable if you have a soldering iron and some shrinkwrap tubes. Washer is probably just frozen up. |

Thanks for everyones suggestions, it was just a simple fuse in the end! i can now see out the rear of my defender, I now just need to troubleshoot the front washer not producing the goods! 2002 TD5 110 CSW

These are the problems I had with the rear and front wiper/washer/motor system on my 2001 TD5 90

You'll need to find out why the fuse blew. Chances are that the motor spindle is starting to seize up due to water ingress. If this is the case it'll be the first of many blown fuses until you strip the motor.

On my rear wiper the magnet detached from the housing, as per my video. It didn't blow the fuse as the cable feeding the motor was so high resistance is couldn't draw enough current. After fixing the magnets and cable to the motor it appears super fast, well compared to how it was! Mike

Thanks, I'll hold taking apart the wiper motor until it blows again, but at least I will be expecting it and will have a spare fuse at hand! And i have actually discovered your videos before mike! I suspect the front washer issue is the non return valve so i have just ordered some from bearmach and hopefully that will help identify the problem, and then hopefully I can improve it from there. Also I would have been far too scared to take apart the rear wiper motor if it wasn't for your video. I will get better as i go on, baby steps... 2002 TD5 110 CSW

Maybe your wiper was frozen? - it's been a tad cold of late. My front wipers were totally frozen to my windscreen which blew a fuse a couple of weeks back. My wife pointed out that this was supposed to be the vehicle that we could rely on in adverse weather conditions! - & we ended up taking her boring yet reliable car instead!

Hi Mike, I think I remember from watching your videos that the non return valve for the front jet is located in the engine bay by the passenger footwell, is this correct or am I thinking of something else? The valve is arriving today so just thinking about fitting it!

Hi Josh, on my 2001 RH drive 90 the front non-return valve is in the engine bay under the heater box, dangling. You should be able to see the pipes running into the bulkhead. Just trace them back from there. I cannot remember which is which ie lefthand is front or rear. It'll make sense if you have a look. On mine there was just a joiner for the rear. Someone else may have already been there though. The rear non-return valve is under the head lining on the passenger side above where the passenger sits. I've relocated this to the engine bay as well now. I hope this helps, Mike. Mike
