If it’s leaking out of the breather on the back of the boost compensator housing (below where the plastic pipe from the turbo joins) then it will be diesel passing the o-ring on the fuel metering pin. A strip and rebuild of the pump will be required I’m afraid.

Does the current leak have potential of becoming worse? Will i develop engine issues if i prolong the leak? The reason i am asking is because i use the vehicle for work and because of COVID 19 most places are closed where i live so finding someone to fix this for me will be a challange. sigh.... |

Mine had the same problem years ago and I ran it like that for a short period while I arranged a new injection pump, I had a rubber glove tied on to the pump to catch the diesel that leaked out. Assuming that your fault is the same it’s unlikely to have any major impacts but I still wouldn’t leave it too long.

You don't need a pump rebuild, we do a top cover reco here and that fix's the problem.

Must the IP be removed from the engine to perform the top cover reco? Or can it be done still connected to the engine?

Today i was looking for a leak somewhere around the crank breather and spotted that 2 rubber plugs where missing and 1 perished from the block around the camshaft area. I checked another engine and there was 2 that are perished. Took a photo of an old scrap engine. Think this my be the cause of the build of oil vapour on that side of the block. Has anyone experienced this, or know what Land Rover call them or even the part number. Thanks Craig

It’s not a plug, it’s just sealant. They are drilling’s for the camshaft bearing oilways made during manufacture that are then plugged and filled with sealant.
Clean them out and fill with oil-resistant sealant. |
