Remap Suggestions
I start a complete rebuild on my 99 110 next week. This will be used for Overlanding to some very remote parts of the world and is getting a huge makeover to do so. This brings me to the topic of remapping, who's the best, who's reliable, etc. I need to mail in the ECU or have them mail out the OBD plug as the Defender will be in pieces.

Thanks

I would always recommend TD5inside/power inside.
I’ve had my defender 2.4 remapped by Jose for about 6 years 70000miles.

Thanks for the suggestions. Out of the ones mentioned, TD5insides' website isn't functioning, BAS only have a 3-month warranty on their turbos and require evidence of expert fitting, Alive look like a good option. Has anyone used Alives' turbos or intercoolers?

Any of the above mentioned companies would, I believe do a good job.

But would you really want a massively tuned vehicle with a non standard turbo on for overlanding?

I wouldn’t.

When I used to overland a bit I just had a very basic stage one, and keep it simple. On that note some of the tuners now do kit so you can check, remove, and reinstall tunes, that could be useful for overlanding.

I’ve run a BAS tune, several Alive tunes, and the massive Alive intercooler in the past. No problems with any of them.

I’m only planning a stage one or two. The turbo needs to be replaced anyways so I was thinking why not upgrade. I was looking at them plug and play kits and they do look interesting but I don’t think they work with my ECU. I suppose I could upgrade the ECU.

The 99 is a MSR ECU non flashable. You can install an NNN ECU and be done with it but you need to ask yourself is it worth it? If as you say you need a new Turbo perhaps it is time to upgrade everything. I have a MSR upgraded stage one and it is great for what I do. I have put 50k Kms on my stage one and I still have everything OEM from factory with 170K Kms on my 99 110.

I do not believe you will need anything more than a stage one for what you are going to do with your 110 for years to come. The question you need to ask yourself is , shall I pay a bucket load of coin on upgrades I may not need or use, or shall I spend a small bit on upgrades I will use every day.

Another vote for Pete at BAS.
Fit another standard turbo. (Upgrade is a lot of cash)
Upgrade your hoses and intercooler and go for a modest sympathetic tune that won't cause any irreparable damage.

I know "some" of the tuners will just take your money and ramp the car up tas high as you are willing to pay. I know from experience Pete would fefuse.

After speaking with Pete at BAS, he suggested that I go for a stage 2 with upgraded turbo, intercooler, and hoses. So it looks like this is the route I will go down. Thanks for all your suggestions.

+1 for Gareth at Empire who apparently has just been doing some remapping work for Aston Martin.
