Mercedes Sprinter advice
Wondered if anyone had experience with auto Mercedes sprinter vans

We are really struggling with the tyres in the snow. Is it worth fitting winter tyres??

I fitted winter tyres on my 65 plate transit , front wheel drive and wow what a difference, it would spin on a wet road before , it’s 155 bhp , but now it grips so much better , and when it snowed down here last year it got me home when cars were getting 4stranded Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Sprinters are notoriously bad when its slippery, being RWD.
I have run one for the last 10 years & fitted all sorts of diferent tyres. The biggest improvment for traction is to put a decent amount of weight in the back,500kg or more.
Thumbs Up
Marc.

A lot of the big food delivery companies who use mercs have winter tyres fitted all year.

LCV tyres if good have a lot of chunky tread on so are normally pretty good all round, the rear wheel drive is the issue so have you thought about snow socks\ chains? Ride like you stole it!!

winter tyres help a great deal as does weight

a lot of tyre and site firms use all season ones all year round which are a good compromise

All season tyres are a good compromise for all year, but winter tyres should not be used when the temperatures rise above 5 degrees c

I run mine from November through to March then put my summer tyres back on Ride like you stole it!!

I use winters, put them on when the clocks change in autumn and take them off when they change in spring. They just get ruined if you use them through summer. 2007 110 TDCi Station Wagon XS

It’s not just that they get ruined, they overheat easily (even in our colder climate), they become very soft and loose the ability to grip which can make your handling feel unstable and potentially unsafe.

Why would you want more noise, poor fuel economy, poor handling, accelerated wear?

You might just as well fit a liquorice all sort Rolling with laughter

Thanks. I have a spare set of rims so will put them on there and swap back in the spring.

I run winter tyres all year round on my fwd transit. They are amazing in the snow and keep me going where others fail. I’ve never had a problem with them in the summer therefore i’d be more than happy to endorse the idea of leaving them on.
I’m currently using Bridgestone blizzak , and would always recommend a quality tyre from a well known manufacturer. 2006 TD5110 station wagon

Nothing legally to stop you in this country (yet), but doesn’t make any sense when temperatures rise above 5degrees. So why would you compromise on your vehicles handling and performance and potentially burn them out quickly wasting money?

I like Bridgestone products especially on my bikes, but this is what they say about it..... Whistle

My vehicle handles fine on them. I am happy to run them all year. I was giving my own opinion from my own personal experiences. If Bridgestone had their way they’d want you to have different tyres for each of our 4 seasons. 2006 TD5110 station wagon
