"Mercia Park said to be the UK’s biggest ever single occupier logistics park creating 1,000s of jobs

The site will be JLR’s global base for sending spare parts to customers in the UK and 80 countries around the world."

Given the reputation for reliability, I'm not surprised they need the biggest ever single occupier logistics park for their spare parts division.
It was a pretty big set up when I was lucky enough to get a tour around the site in the Midlands around 10 years ago or so. At that time the g lobal spare part division logistics were sub contracted to CAT Logistics.

It's cheaper to develop (no clean-up or decontamination) hence more profit.

I can't think of a more chaotic setup than at present:

10 sites
4 different companies ~ Neovia, Unipart, Ceva Logistics and Panalpina
1,200 employees

Of the 4 companies you mention, 2 are parts suppliers who have been looking after the LR and Jag parts supply for a very long time. The other 2 are the transport providers.

Do you really think JLR are capable of doing all of that on their own?

They should try harder to focus and improve on what are supposed to be the core strengths, and leave the other stuff to those who know how to do it.

If they came up with a more sensible spare part pricing strategy, they might even sell more to justify changing it.

Not suggesting that it all gets taken in-house, just that over 10 years after it became a single company, it looked to complete on some of the justifications for that move.

What do you think JLR's core competencies are? JLR have lost many older employees with the depth of knowledge and memory of what the company has been and what it stands for. A shift from mechanical engineering to software has brought many new employees in, whilst at the same time, third party consultants have had control over core elements of projects.

“Infrastructure works are now largely complete, so construction can commence.

“This is great news for the logistics sector, and it is hugely exciting for IM Properties to be involved with a deal of such scale and importance.

“The units will be completed on a phased basis with the last unit due to complete in September 2022."

Chris Nichols, head of sale and leaseback at ICG said: “This is a landmark acquisition by ICG, and the biggest single-occupier logistics build-to-suit ever undertaken in the UK.
