Electrics aren’t my strong point either but maybe you could unplug the base and test the current with a multimeter on the car side to see if it’s being delivered. That way you know what way (car side or base side) you should start to investigate.
Before I had my defender I had zero tools and had never done work on a car before. Now I have all the tools and bits so that I can fix most things myself ![]() |

I doubt it's the element. Normally just the drivers side that breaks due to movement when you change gear. Be a bit of a coincidence for them both to be faulty.
Were these factory fit? Not sure if available in 2007. Multimeter as other have said, then check the relay. |

Could still be both elements failed. It's not uncommon for seat bases to be swapped when the drivers side gets a bit tired. All the puma heated seat failures I've had have been caused by the wire breakage where the element connects in the base and in each case I've been able to solder it up. Usually fairly simple to see and do once you get the seat base apart and peel away the sticky stuff where the wires join. If the base fails the back does too.

Sorry, should had said they are factory fit heated seats. I will try the multmeter and check for resistance. Is the full seat on the same circuit?

Filament in the seat being broken is my guess with the vehicle at the age it’s at.
Only takes a coffee spill to soak through and rust the wire and it’ll break. Check your voltage first, go from there ![]() |

I have just repaired my XS heated seats. There is a plastic zip lock that splits the outer upper and lower seat covers. There are 2 wires going onto the heat pad for the backrest part. The yellow wire goes onto a strange small round part and from there onto the heat pad. This yellow wire from the loom had broken off at the joining point to the strange round thing. A very fiddley soldering job but re attached and all good to go.

Mine did the same. The small round thing is the heat sensor, so if it gets to hot it stops the power/heating. It also stops the seat from working just after you have soldered the wire to it, making you think you haven’t solved the issue.
Can’t think how I know that. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Have just done a heated seat repair this morning on a sales defender at the local indi. Same yellow wire broken off on the button thermostat. So thanks for the advise. All working fine now, and off to the new owner tomorrow. Total time 1hr.
Ashbyandy. 👍😀 |

Just completed the drivers seat and I am glad to say that this was the issue and a relatively easy fix - assuming you have 4 hands to solder the wire back to the thermostat! (My wife was dragged into it). I have taken some pics and will post them on a separate post entitled Defender Heated Seat Fix. Once again, thanks for this, just the passenger seat to do...
